The grandiose castle fortified in the 14th century by Galeazzo II Visconti stands in the centre of the small farming town of Belgioso.
In 1431 the Milanese family Barbiano di Belgioso obtained Castello di Belgioioso, who held it until 1536, the castle was subsequently transformed into an aristocratic residence.
Remaining from the original 15th c. structure are the long and majestic north facade and the drawbridge entrance. In the 17th c., prince Alberico built the villa, the colonnaded bridge and the garden with splendid rows of magnolias, and in 1792 Leopold Pollack designed the elegant glasshouse with a Doric colonnade and tympanum.
The elegance of the construction is enhanced by the stuccoes and decorations inside. Giuseppe Parini stayed here for a long time as preceptor and was inspired by it to write "Il Mattino".
As a setting for spectacles and events, it also hosts numerous fairs such as the Antiques Market and Show, and the Book Fair.
