Museo Civico Navale Didattico

Trains, boats and more.........

The main nucleus that developed around two twin cloisters was built by an ancient Benedictine Monastery which passed to the Olivetani order in 1500. Restructured with the help of Lombardi industrialists, it has housed the Museum since 1953. The Museum has developed in three buildings and three distinct parts: Monuments, Rail Transport, and Maritime Transport, including sections dedicated to fabric production, metallurgy, motors, transport, telecommunication, astronomy and information. Located in the same building that hosts the Museum of Science and Technology, it conserves history and technology of naval art over the century. Included are mercantile ship models, warship models, relics, models on the evolution of the Italian Navy from the XV Century.

Special interest: the Venetian "Bucintoro" and the "tenda rossa" (red curtain) from the polar expedition with the "Italia" blimp driven by General Nobile.
