Milan
The Napoleonic barracks
Along Corso Buones Aires, a crowded, commercial, Milanese street of ancient origin is this long, old Austrian barracks. Called the 'Caserma Napoleonica' it was originally built for the Austrian army on the north east side of the Lazzaretto. After the Unification of Italy, the military were dismissed from here and it became a home and the location of craftsmens workshops. The simple, eighteenth century facade has survived, although some of it has been ruined by the windows and signs of the shops.
