Civico Museo d'Arte Contemporanea

A look at 20th century art.

In the neoclassical Palazzo Reale, built by Piermarini between 1772 and 1778 near to the cathedral, on the upper floor, it houses the Civic Museum of Contemporary Art (CIMAC).

Opened in 1984, planned by Ludovic Begioiso and Franca Helg, CIMAC built its collections from acquisitons from the Museum of Modern Art and from donations from Milan collectors offering a patrimony of 20th century Italian art. In its halls, the history of 20th century Italian painting is told, from futuristic style to metaphysical pictures, to abstracts and Lombardy 'chiarismo'. Several artsts' work stands out such as that of Umberto Boccioni, Amedeo Modigliani, Giorgio de Chirico, Mario Sironi, Carlo CarrĂ , Giorgio Morandi, Filippo de Pisis and Lucio Fontana.

The splendid Jucker collection is also on display here donated to the community in 1992 and containing works by Matisse, Picasso, Modigliani, Klee and Balla.
