This museum is in the centre of Legnano, an important industrial town in the Province of Milan which is famous for a battle that took place here in 1176, when the Lombards fought against imperial power. It is remembered every year in the annual celebration of Sagra del Carroccio.
The museum is housed in a building dating from 1928 constructed on the remains of an ancient manor from the fifteenth century belonging to the Lampugnani family. It has numerous evidence of the ancient history of Legnano and the surrounding area. Prehistoric remains are also found here from the necropoli of the Civilta di Canegrate and of Golasecca, from the Roman era as well as a coin collection. There are a number of objects in the Tower Room which document the working life of the Legnano territory.
