Milan
Historic grounds of Milanese sport
The building of the Arena di Milano began in 1806 and lasted twenty years. Around 1930 the arena was devoted to sport, in particular to football, athletics and cycling but also holding competitions for basketball, rugby and boxing. Many world records have in fact been recorded here, in particular for athletics. In 1996 it was completely restructured with the restoration of the track and of the springboards used in jumping and throwing competitions. In 1998 it housed a permanent exhibition for 3 months, the Big Gym sporting village. The arena has also housed a number of important concerts including that of Sting in 1988 and Zucchero in 1991.
