Karl Johans church
Skeppsholmskyrkan (also called Karl Johans church), located on Skeppsholmen, was built as an admiralty church, and was consecrated in 1842. It is an octagonal church in Neo-Classical style. Four buildings placed in a cruciform shape make up the main building, the entrance, the vestry, the sanctuary and the aisles. The exterior is characterised by the windows, each having four Doric columns, and the projecting roof. The building material is brick. The dome-shaped roof is held up by eight Ionian columns in Romanesque style.
During the summer, the church is often used as a venue for musical events as the space and acoustics are perfect for this.
