Electricity
| Electricity in England is 240 volts, 50 cycle AC, as compared to 110 volts, 60 cycle AC in the U.S. When taking along electrical appliances, a converter and a plug adapter are needed to operate them.

Packing Tips
| Although the climate is relatively mild with moderate rainfall, packing for England requires bringing some warm clothing as well as lighter layers, as well as some rain gear, as rain often moves in with little warning for sustained periods. Fall, winter and spring (Sept to May) can be cold damp, so a sweater or jacket will be necessary.
In nicer restaurants, jackets and ties are required for men, so pack accordingly.

Passports and Visas
| A valid passport is required by all foreign visitors to England, except nationals of EU countries and Iceland, Liechtenstein, Monaco, Norway and Switzerland with a valid national ID card for tourist visits not exceeding 3 months.

Money Matters
| The currency in England is the Pound. The Euro is accepted at very few establishments, so be prepared. Check current exchange rates before traveling. Visa, Mastercard and American Express credit cards, and travelers checks are widely accepted throughout the country, however cash will be easier outside the large cities, so plan accordingly.
Currency exchange agents are located in the major cities and tourist areas (American Express, Thomas Cook). ATM machines are located at all major banks, but may be limited to bank hours (9:30-4:30, M-F) and possibly closed on weekends. Larger cities have 24-hour ATMS machines.
