Galabeyas Party |
Luxor sightseeing includes the Valley of the Kings, Temple of Queen Hatshepsut & Colossi of MemnonThe valley is located on the west bank of the Nile across from Thebes (modern Luxor). It is separated into the East and West Valley; most of the important tombs are in the East Valley. The West Valley has only one tomb open to the public: the tomb of Ay, Tutankhamun’s successor. |
Visit the Pyramids at Giza
The plateau of Giza lies to the west of Cairo and there sits the last Ancient Wonder of the World, the great pyramid of Cheops. The three pyramids are actually tombs of three pharaohs of the Old Kingdom. The first pyramid, the largest, was built by King Cheops for his royal body and it took 100,000 men twenty years to complete. The second pyramid, the tomb of King Chephren, appears to be the largest, but actually it was constructed on a plateau. King Chephren tried to cast his tomb with granite; however, the job was not completed. You can see evidence of this attempt on the top third of the pyramid. The Sphinx is believed to be a valley temple of King Chephren with the body of a lion and a human head representing King Chephren. The third pyramid belonged to King Mycerinus. The complex contained the usual valley temple, causeway and funerary temple. A sarcophagus and mummy were also found in the tomb as well as three queen pyramids on the southern side of the structure. |
Visit the Temple of Horus
Dedicated to Horus, the falcon headed god, it was built during the reigns of six Ptolemies. We have a great deal of information about its construction from reliefs on outer areas. It was begun in 237 BC by Ptolemy III Euergetes I and was finished in 57 BC. Most of the work continued throughout this period with a brief interlude of 20 years while there was unrest during the period of Ptolemy IV and Ptolemy V Epiphanes. |
View the Sphinx, Colossus of Ramses II & the Step Pyramid of King Zoser
See the enigmatic Sphinx, with the head of a man and body of a lion. In the old capital of Memphis, marvel at the limestone Colossus of Ramses II and the alabaster sphinx. In Sakkara, see the oldest of the pyramids, the Step Pyramid of King Zoser, dating back over 2,700 years B.C. |
See the Aswan Dam, Temple of Philae & unfinished ObeliskSee the great Aswan Dam, which created the largest artificial lake in the world and increased Egypt’s cultivated land by 30%. |
