Passports and Visas
|
| A valid passport for at least six months beyond the period of intended stay is required by all.
Nationals of Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the UK and the USA can usually obtain visas on arrival at Cairo International Airport, provided they hold passports valid for a minimum of 6 months. They should still check with their airline that they will be permitted to board the aircraft without a visa. It is always advisable to obtain visas in advance if possible.

Money Matters
|
| The currency in Egypt is the Egyptian Pound. Check current exchange rates before traveling. Visa, Mastercard and American Express credit cards, and travelers checks are widely accepted throughout the country, however cash will be easier outside the large cities, so plan accordingly.
Currency exchange agents are located in the major cities and tourist areas (American Express, Thomas Cook). Travelers are advised to take travelers checks in US Dollars or Pounds Sterling, thereby avoiding additional exchange rate charges.

Electricity
|
| Throughout Egypt, most areas use 220 volts AC, 50Hz. Certain rural parts still use 110-380 volts AC. When taking along electrical appliances, a converter and a plug adapter are needed to operate them.

Packing Tips
|
| Egypt enjoys hot, dry summers with mild, dry winters and cold nights. Rainfall is only a factor on or near the coast. In April the Khamsin wind blows from the Sahara and tends to make things hotter and dustier than normal.
Lightweight cottons and linen during summer with warmer clothes for winter and cooler evenings are always a good bet.
