Your 11-day tour of the island country begins with a leisurely stay in Japan’s fascinating capital, Tokyo. Experience the contrasts of this ultra-modern city surrounding centuries-old Buddhist and Shinto shrines and temples.
The contrast deepens in historic Hakone where we ascend in an aerial cable-car for breathtaking views of Mount Fuji. Explore the 16th-century Matsumoto Castle before driving through the Japanese Alps to the traditional city of Takayama. After a morning visit to the riverside market, we arrive in Kanazawa, Japan’s jewel on the west coast, for a relaxing night in the old castle town.
From the beautiful, ancient capital of Kyoto to the lantern-lined pathways of Nara, temples, culture and tradition flourish. Enjoy a highlight visit to the Todaiji Temple, home of the largest Buddha statue in Japan before setting out for Osaka, where we whisper sayonara to this colorful country.
