Passports and Visas
A valid passport is required by all foreign visitors to The United States. Most foreign visitors to the USA require a visa. However, Canadians need only proof of citizenship. A reciprocal visa-waiver program allows citizens of the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland to stay up to 90 days without a visa if they have an onward ticket
Money Matters
The currency in The United States is the US Dollar. You can exchange foreign currency or cash at almost any bank or exchange bureau. Credit cards are widely accepted and ATMs all over the country accept various ATM cards and credit cards for cash advance. Tipping in The United States is required, usually 15-20% whether the service was good or not. Taxi drivers, bellhops, doormen, bartenders, waitresses all expect a tip for their services.
Electricity
Voltage used throughout The United States is 110V, and adapters can be purchased prior to traveling if necessary.
Packing Tips
The US climate ranges from hot and humid in the summer months to cold and frigid in the winter, and everything in between. Literally, all 50 states have distinctive climates of their own. Its best to determine the climate for the time and regions you'll be traveling. For the most part, pack light, comfortable clothing that can be layered if it becomes chilly. A light jacket would be advisable in the fall and spring, with heavier clothing in the winter.
