Transport yourself to ancient lands and modern cities on our 18-day Treasures of Spain, Portugal, & Morocco tour. The fascinating cultural experience begins in Madrid, capital of Spain. After a relaxing evening to meet your new travel companions, head to Salamanca. En-route visit Toledo to see the 13th-century cathedral and admire the work of El Greco. Once in Salamanca see the New and Old Cathedrals before enjoying people-watching in the vast Plaza Mayor. On to Lisbon, capital of Portugal and gateway to the New World. Explore the winding streets and see Sao Jorge Castle, Belem Tower and Monument to the Discoveries. From Lisbon we head back into Spain to the flamenco city of Seville. Visit the cathedral to see Christopher Columbus’ tomb, the Alcazar and the Santa Cruz quarter before enjoying a highlight dinner and flamenco show!
From Seville, cross into Gibraltar to explore the old town and see the famous Barbary Apes before leaving Europe to head to North Africa! You land in Tangier to see the Medina and Casbah and continue on to Fez, the oldest of Morocco’s cities. For your first night in this foreign land enjoy a traditional Moroccan dinner and belly dancing show. In Fez visit the Medina and walled city, shop for carpets and wander the hidden courtyards and maze of streets. On your way to Marrakesh you can enjoy the view of the rugged Atlas Mountains and see small villages. In Marrakesh visit the Saadi Tombs and explore another amazing Medina. See Koutobia Minaret and end your guided sightseeing with acrobatic dancers and fortune tellers. On your way to Rabat, stop in Casablanca then on to Rabat to see the Royal Palace and Hassan Tower.
Sail back across the Straits of Gibraltar to Spain. Visit the magnificent Alhambra and see the Moorish influence. Then, back in Madrid take a visit to the Royal Palace.

See the remains of the citadel, the so-called palace of the kings, and the quarters once used by officials. Lisbon - Lisbon by NightWe drive first to the Barrio Alto, the old quarter of Lisbon, to admire the views over the city. We then take a short funicular ride to the Baixa, the heart of the downtown area where after a short walk you will have time to have a leisurely dinner in one of the many restaurants in this area. Later back to the hotel passing the sights of the city by night. |
Fez - Meknes ExcursionWe drive to Meknes, once of Morocco's imperial cities. We visit the famous Mosque, the former stables and granaries and take in views of the impressive city walls. |
Lisbon - Fado EveningSavor dinner in a typical Portuguese nightspot, specializing in beautiful and haunting Fado melodies. Wine included. |
Marrakesh - Ourika ValleyA scenic drive south of Marrakesh brings us to the beautiful and fertile Ourika Valley named after the River Ourika. You will enjoy spectacular views of the towering High Atlas Mountains which are snow capped nine months of the year. You will also have the opportunity to bargain for local handcrafted jewelry. |
Lisbon - Sintra, Cascais & Estoril ExcursionWe leave the city of Lisbon for the slopes of the Sierra de Sintra. After visiting an impressive palace, we see the fashionable casino resort of Estoril before returning to Lisbon by way of the quaint fishing village of Cascais. |
Marrakesh - Marrakesh by Night & DinnerWe take a horse and buggy ride to the magical Jemaa el Fna Square to enjoy the sights and sounds of this special city by night. We then have dinner in a typical Moroccan restaurant with local specialties to enjoy. |
Lisbon - Seafood Dinner by the Tagus RiverTake the ferry across the mighty Tagus River and enjoy typical Portuguese seafood and fish specialties. After dinner cross the impressive suspension bridge for sweeping views over the Portuguese capital. |
Madrid - Excursion to SegoviaWe drive to Segovia, originally founded by the Romans, where, with a local guide, we enjoy a walking tour of the medieval streets from the ancient aqueduct to the magnificent Alcazar. Our guided tour of this 14th century palace shows us the splendor of the art and armory of the Spanish medieval era. Then we take a panoramic drive to admire the stunning views over the Eresma valley, the 28 m (92 ft) high Roman aqueduct and the many picturesque and ancient buildings of this medieval jewel. |
Seville - Cordoba & the MesquitaA morning excursion to historic Cordoba, the most perfectly preserved Moorish city, where our guided walking tour shows us this fascinating city including the magnificent 'Mesquita', an 8th century mosque which is considered to be one of the finest monuments built by the Moors during their occupation of Spain. |
Madrid - Madrileno Dinner & Plaza MayorFirst it's off to Plaza Mayor, once the Main Square dating back to 1617 and dominated by the spectacular facade of the 'Casa de la Pandaria'. After time for photos we drive to our traditional 'Meson' to try many of the dishes that Madrid is renowned for. Drinks such as regional wine, beer and soft drinks are included but we suggest sampling some of Spain's famous 'Sangria'. All this will be accompanied by a local 'Tuna de Madrid' playing all your favorite Spanish songs on traditional instruments. |
Seville - Andalusian Tapas & the Atmosphere of Old SevilleEnjoy a delicious selection of tapas specialties in a local restaurant with wine included. Then later we conclude the evening by taking an atmospheric walk through the old quarter of Seville which has a special magic in the evening. |
