Not all areas included on this tour are accessible by motor vehicle. Visiting ancient ruins and a handful of other listed sites may require some walking, sometimes on cobblestone streets. Be sure to pack comfortable and safe walking shoes and get ready to enjoy these fascinating attractions up close and personal.

This tour requires moderate physical activity. You should be in good health, able to climb stairs and walk slightly longer distances, possibly over uneven grounds and cobblestone streets.

Day 1 USA - Rome

VIP Door-to-Door Transfer to your local airport for your overnight flight to Rome.

Day 2 Arrive Rome

On arrival at Rome’s Fiumicino Leonardo da Vinci Airport, your airport transfer leaves for the tour hotel at 09:30, 12:30 & 15:30. Your afternoon is free to explore on your own. This evening enjoy a Welcome Reception with your Tour Director and new companions.

Day 3 Rome

This morning visit St. Peter’s Basilica, the largest church in the Christian world before continuing on to the famous Colosseum. See the Roman Forum and Circus Maximus en route. Enjoy a very special, privately guided tour of the priceless collection of art and treasures found in the Sistine Chapel and Vatican Museum. See the beautiful frescoes created by Michelangelo, Perugino and Botticelli and marvel at the unique ceiling of the Sistine Chapel: surely one of Michelangelo’s greatest achievements.

Day 5 Rome - Sorrento Peninsula (Pompeii Excursion Included)

We travel past the Roman Hills this morning with a stop at the War Cemetery of Montecassino, just below its famous abbey. Then, on to the Bay of Naples, where we visit the archaeological treasures of Pompeii, the Roman city both destroyed and preserved by an eruption of Mt. Vesuvius nearly 2,000 years ago. Our scenic drive continues to the beautiful Sorrento Coast where we spend two relaxing nights. This evening’s Explore & Discover™ event is an enjoyable dinner with a local family.

Day 6 Sorrento Peninsula (Isle of Capri Excursion Included)

Visit the legendary and idyllic Isle of Capri, once the summer home of Roman Emperors. There is plenty of time to explore this enchanting island before our jetfoil takes us back to Sorrento.

Day 7 Sorrento Peninsula - Orvieto - Assisi

Today we journey north to the fortified hilltop town of Orvieto standing proud on a crag of volcanic rock. The ornately decorated Cathedral is a gothic wonder and the narrow streets are a maze of shops. Continue on to the rosetinted stone town of Assisi.

Day 8 Assisi - San Gimignano - Florence

The day begins with a relaxing morning in the medieval Umbrian town of Assisi with time to visit the amazing 13th century Basilica of St. Francis with its impressive fresco paintings by Giotto. Continue through famous, local vineyards to San Gimignano, the medieval ‘Manhattan’ of Tuscany, with time free to explore the maze of back streets, shops and trattorias before continuing to Florence – home of the Renaissance!

Day 9 Florence

Today begins with a highlight visit with our local expert to the Uffizi Gallery, one of the richest museums of this Renaissance capital, Florence, and home to one of the greatest collections of Italian paintings. See art treasures by Da Vinci, Michelangelo and Botticelli. View the Church of Santa Croce, the final resting place of Michelangelo, Galileo, Machiavelli and Rossini. Then, enjoy the open-air museum of Signoria Square and view the great Cathedral and “Gates of Paradise.” The afternoon is at leisure to browse in this shopper’s paradise.

Day 10 Florence - Venice

Enjoy a leisurely morning in Florence or perhaps drive to Pisa to see its amazing leaning tower? This afternoon, drive across the Apennine mountains to the fertile plains of Emilia Romagna. Cross the River Po and Veneto plain to the Venetian Lagoon and our hotel on the fashionable Lido. This evening enjoy a highlight dinner in a local restaurant with wine from Veneto.

Day 11 Venice

The finest way to absorb the unusual sights, sounds and unique Byzantine atmosphere of Venice is on an included cruise to St. Mark’s Square. View the Bridge of Sighs with your local guide and see traditional Venetian glassblowers at work. Enjoy plenty of time free to explore narrow alleyways or join an optional Venetian Lagoon cruise.

Day 12 Venice - Baveno

This morning we head across the plains of Lombardy to the spectacular Italian Lake District. Tonight, we enjoy a Highlight Farewell Dinner with stunning views of Lake Maggiore and the surrounding Alps. A truly magnificent setting to remember the very best of Italy!
