Our morning sightseeing tour
takes us to view the Royal Palace,
Puerta del Sol and Plaza Espana
with its monument to Cervantes.
Then on to a highlight visit to
the palatial Prado Museum,
one of the world’s greatest art
galleries with works by El Greco,
Goya, Italian and Dutch masters.
Later perhaps join an optional
excursion to El Escorial, Philip

cosmopolitan city or perhaps
join an optional excursion to
Toledo, the ancient capital of
Castile, perched above a loop
in the Tagus River. Visit the

Santo Tome where you will see
the masterpiece by the painter
El Greco. Explore at leisure and
shop for the local handicraft
of decorated damascened steel

to Montserrat to marvel at the

region we head for the city of
the running bulls, Pamplona.

famous Estafeta Street before
we continue north to the Bay of
Biscay and the beautiful seaside
town of San Sebastian. The

This morning a highlight
stop in Bilbao, where we visit
the spectacular and modern
Guggenheim Museum created
by the North American architect
Frank O. Gehry. Next stop is
Burgos, the land of El Cid and
his burial place. We continue
on to Leon where the highlights
include the market square and
the arcaded Plaza Mayor in the

This morning enjoy a special visit
to the 11th and 12th-century
cathedral of Santiago, resting place
of the relics of Spain’s patron
saint, St. James, and destination of
pilgrims from all parts of Europe
since the Middle Ages. See the
Door of Glory, the Goldsmith’s
Door, the magnificent façade and
enjoy free time before departing

Our sightseeing tour views the
pastel shades of the buildings and
the remarkable bridges across
the Douro Valley. Visit the Stock
Exchange, known for its ornate

downtown area or the historic

After a leisurely breakfast, head
to Fatima to see the shrine and
Basilica of Our Lady of the
Rosary, where pilgrims flock to
the spot where three shepherds
had an apparition of the Virgin.
Continue to the capital, Lisbon,

Begin your
stay with an
included tour
of the city stopping at
the Monument of the
Discoveries, Tower of
Belem perched on the
banks of the Tagus,
and the Hieronymite
Monastery. Here we
will see the tomb of
Vasco da Gama. From
this city many of the
explorers of the New
World set sail, and we will hear about Magellan,
Diaz and Henry as we tour this
exciting Portuguese capital.
A tour of the Alfama district
and the Liberdade tree- lined
boulevard are also part of our
morning sightseeing. In the
afternoon, plenty of time to enjoy
optional tours to the Atlantic
coast, the Palace of Sintra and the pretty harbor of Cascais.
Tonight, we say our goodbyes
to our newfound friends during
