Traveler Interview: Memories of Grand Italia

Traveler Interview: Memories of Grand Italia

We sat down with Travel Guest Ginny A. to talk about her experience on the 15-Day Grand Italia.   It was Ginny’s first time on a guided vacation, and she had lots of feedback and memories to share.  Read our interview to learn about some of the highlights of her trip as well as her tips for first-time travelers.

Why did you decide to travel with Grand European?

I had never done any tours prior to this. I went online and read through as many reviews as I could because I wanted something not just better than average but outstanding. I read positive things about Grand European, and then I received some info about the company and its discounts from AARP and that helped me make my decision.

You recently returned from the 15-day Grand Italia. What was your favorite part of the vacation?

The day that impressed me the most was our trip to Assisi. I got to attend mass at the cathedral and it was wonderful. The scenery was magnificent, and our hotel was in a great location – it gave us the best views and a chance to explore the city on our own. I was very impressed.

As a first time traveler with us, did anything surprise you about your experience?
Yes, our Travel Director Riccardo was phenomenal! The attention he paid to every detail and the treatment we received as a group and as individuals was professional and inviting.

What was the food like on your trip?

The food was also phenomenal. Each and every meal went above and beyond our expectations. My favorite meal was a dinner we had with a local family at their home near Sorrento. Everyone was so friendly and the ambiance was wonderful. There were multiple courses and everything was great, but I’ll never forget the lasagna they served – it was the best I’ve ever had!

Do you have any tips to share with first time travelers?

I’d say always pack lightly and keep an eye on your belongings when you’re visiting a new city. Oh, and go with a good tour company! That makes a huge difference. I always tell people that we would have missed so much had we been on our own. Having Riccardo right there with us was great because he knew everything about the places we were visiting and had so much to share.

What were the other people like on your trip?

Everyone was very nice. We’ve even kept in touch with a few other couples we met on our trip – one of them lives near our daughter in Northern California.

Where to next?

Either Paris and London or Greece, we’re trying to decide where to go first!

If Ginny ate at the same home Margaret took us to I agree with everything she said. The Gentleman of the house was a Chef and also made his own wine which was excellent. I have only travelled with Grand European and their Sister companies, eight or nine trips so far, and find them to be an excellent Tour company with great knowledgable Guides.
