Photo of the Month: Mont St-Michel

Our August Photo of the Month captures the beautiful island commune of Mont St-Michel.

Located of the northwestern coast of Normandy in France, Mont St-Michel holds a unique position at only 600 meters from the mainland.

The island draws its name from its eponymous 11th century abbey, a popular pilgrimage center for several centuries.  And while millions of visitors from around the world flock here each year, fewer than 50 full-time residents call the island home.

I will never forget my visit to Mont St. Michel back in September of 2001. Of all the castles I visited while touring France nothing quite captivated my sense of wonder about castles and citadels like this one. I would recommend anyone who visits to plan on visiting for at least a couple of days. There is so much to see and do ! You’ll never forget your walk up those steps !
