There are three official languages in Belgium, Dutch, French and German. You will also hear English spoken throughout the country.

The majority of Belgians are Roman Catholic, with other religions represented in smaller numbers.

Belgian cuisine is similar to French, though in Belgium, butter, cream, beer and wine are often used in cooking. The country is known worldwide for its waffles, chocolate and French fries. Tempting menu items include moules frites or mussels and French fries, Ardennes sausage, ham and pâté, salade liégeoise or salad with green beans, bacon and onions, and stoemp or potatoes mashed with vegetables. You'll be spoiled for choice on what to drink with your meal. There's not enough time to try the over 400 beers brewed in Belgium. Maybe sample a fruit beers, try a famous name like Stella Artois, or a local beer like Gueuze.
