Kickstart your exploration of America's rugged Pacific Northwest in 'The City'. Check-in to your hotel located just a short walk from Union Square and the exotic sights and sounds of Chinatown. Then, take to San Francisco's hilly streets and immerse yourself in its vibrant energy. This evening, you'll meet your Travel Director and fellow travellers at a Welcome Reception.
Admire the orange glow of one of the world's most beloved bridges as you join your Travel Director for a stroll across San Francisco's landmark Golden Gate Bridge. Learn all about the "mighty task" of its construction and why it's not painted gold despite its name. Leaving its iconic arches behind, we drive alongside the towering trunks that frame California's Avenue of the Giants to Humboldt Redwoods State Park en route to the lively seaport town of Eureka.
We view the ornate Victorian architecture on display at Carson Mansion this morning, before travelling to Northern California's, UNESCO-listed Redwood National Park to discover the mighty russet trunks that have towered above the forest floor for over a thousand years. Spend tonight in the quaint Oregon coastal city of Coos Bay.
Buckle up for an exhilarating morning navigating the shifting sands of the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area- a windswept adventure through an endless sea of sand, marshes and tree islands. Sweeping coastal views are ours to enjoy as we pass Heceta Head and see its beautiful 19th century lighthouse-the brightest light on the Oregon coast-before checking into our oceanfront hotel for an evening at leisure.
The sun-worshipping seals of Newport Harbour take centre stage this morning as we join an expert Local Specialist onboard a nature cruise to spot the sea life and marine birds that find sanctuary amongst these waters. Spend the evening at leisure, exploring the Historical Bayfront with its turn-of-the-century storefronts, chowder houses and art galleries.
Celebrate the wonder of man-made flight during a tour of the Evergreen Aviation Museum. Then, escape to Oregon's green and golden wine country and Connect with the Local winery owners for a gourmet Be My Guest lunch before an evening at leisure.
Admire the natural beauty of Oregon's historic Columbia River Highway, imagining a time when Model Ts would ramble over bridges and through tunnels hand-hewn from the mountain rock. Pay tribute to the brave Oregon pioneers at Vista House and admire panoramic views of the winding Columbia River below. We journey to the two-tiered Multnomah Falls, the second-highest year-round waterfall in the United States, then enjoy some free time for lunch in Hood River in the heart of the Columbia River Gorge. Consider indulging in the local speciality of salmon and chips, washed down with one of many craft beers for which Oregon is so famous, and visit Timberline Lodge on the slopes of the snowcapped Mount Hood.
See Mount St. Helens, whose legendary eruption was so colossal that it spewed ash into 11 states. We visit the award-winning Mount St. Helens Visitor Center which acts as a gateway to this Ring-of-Fire volcano, providing interactive exhibits of the event and a working seismograph. Our next stop is the vast wilderness of Olympic National Park before we meet Harvest Moon, a Local Specialist, who will share with you the tribal legends and stories of the Quinault nation who for generations have lived in the Pacific Northwest. Tonight, our Stay with a Story is a rustic lodge built in the 1920s on the site of the old 'Log Hotel'.
We delve into the emerald-green depths of Hoh Rainforest, trekking to its eerie "Hall of Mosses" past maple and spruces dripping with moss, then stop to admire the brilliant blue waters of Lake Crescent before leaving Olympic National Park. As we journey across Puget Sound, views of Seattle's Space Needle and snow-capped Mount Rainier herald your arrival in the Emerald City, which you have an opportunity to explore at your leisure this evening.
You're free to explore Seattle on your terms with your choice sightseeinggiving you a chance to visit the fantastical glass sculptures of Chihuly Garden and Glass Art Museum or take a trip to the top of the landmark Space Needle. Our next stop is the historic Pike Place Market, the nation's oldest farmer's market, where the fish fly low-from one fishmonger's hands to the next. Indulge in the market's spirit of meeting the producer, then join your newfound friends for a Farewell Dinner.
It's time to bid farewell to your fellow adventurers and take your transfer to Seattle International Airport or perhaps extend your stay.
