Overview

Explore the independent spirit of America's Pacific Northwest, past towering Redwoods, panoramic mountains and vineyard landscapes. Grab a cup of Seattle blend, ride through shifting dunes and sip Pinot with the locals.

  1. Kickstart your exploration of America's rugged Pacific Northwest in 'The City'. Check-in to your hotel located just a short walk from Union Square and the exotic sights and sounds of Chinatown. Then, take to San Francisco's hilly streets and immerse yourself in its vibrant energy. This evening, you'll meet your Travel Director and fellow travelers at a Welcome Reception.

    meal(s):Welcome Reception
    hotel:Hyatt Regency San Francisco
  2. Admire the orange glow of one of the world's most beloved bridges as you join your Travel Director for a stroll across San Francisco's landmark Golden Gate Bridge. Learn all about the "mighty task" of its construction and why it's not painted gold despite its name. Leaving its iconic arches behind, we drive alongside the towering trunks that frame California's Avenue of the Giants to Humboldt Redwoods State Park en route to the lively seaport town of Eureka.

    meal(s):Full Breakfast, Dinner
    hotel:Red Lion Eureka
  3. We view the ornate Victorian architecture on display at Carson Mansion this morning, before traveling to Northern California's, UNESCO-listed Redwood National Park to discover the mighty russet trunks that have towered above the forest floor for over a thousand years. Spend tonight in the quaint Oregon coastal city of Coos Bay.

    meal(s):Full Breakfast
    hotel:The Mill Hotel
  4. Buckle up for an exhilarating morning navigating the shifting sands of the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area- a windswept adventure through an endless sea of sand, marshes and tree islands. Sweeping coastal views are ours to enjoy as we pass Heceta Head and see its beautiful 19th century lighthouse-the brightest light on the Oregon coast-before checking into our oceanfront hotel for an evening at leisure.

    meal(s):Full Breakfast, Dinner
    hotel:Hallmark Resort Newport
  5. The sun-worshiping seals of Newport Harbor take center stage this morning as we join an expert Local Specialist on board a nature cruise to spot the sea life and marine birds that find sanctuary among these waters. Spend the evening at leisure, exploring the Historical Bayfront with its turn-of-the-century storefronts, chowder houses and art galleries.

    meal(s):Full Breakfast
  6. Celebrate the wonder of man-made flight during a tour of the Evergreen Aviation Museum. Then, escape to Oregon's green and golden wine country and Connect with the Local winery owners for a gourmet Be My Guest lunch before an evening at leisure.

    meal(s):Full Breakfast, Lunch
    hotel:Portland Marriott Downtown Waterfront
  7. Admire the natural beauty of Oregon's historic Columbia River Highway, imagining a time when Model Ts would ramble over bridges and through tunnels hand-hewn from the mountain rock. Pay tribute to the brave Oregon pioneers at Vista House and admire panoramic views of the winding Columbia River below. We journey to the two-tiered Multnomah Falls, the second-highest year-round waterfall in the United States, then enjoy some free time for lunch in Hood River in the heart of the Columbia River Gorge. Consider indulging in the local specialty of salmon and chips, washed down with one of many craft beers for which Oregon is so famous, and visit Timberline Lodge on the slopes of the snow capped Mount Hood.

    meal(s):Full Breakfast
  8. See Mount St. Helens, whose legendary eruption was so colossal that it spewed ash into 11 states. We visit the award-winning Mount St. Helens Visitor Center which acts as a gateway to this Ring-of-Fire volcano, providing interactive exhibits of the event and a working seismograph. Our next stop is the vast wilderness of Olympic National Park before we meet Harvest Moon, a Local Specialist, who will share with you the tribal legends and stories of the Quinault nation who for generations have lived in the Pacific Northwest. Tonight, our Stay with a Story is a rustic lodge built in the 1920s on the site of the old 'Log Hotel'.

    meal(s):Full Breakfast, Dinner
    hotel:Quinault Lodge
  9. We delve into the emerald-green depths of Hoh Rainforest, trekking to its eerie "Hall of Mosses" past maple and spruces dripping with moss, then stop to admire the brilliant blue waters of Lake Crescent before leaving Olympic National Park. As we journey across Puget Sound, views of Seattle's Space Needle and snow-capped Mount Rainier herald your arrival in the Emerald City, which you have an opportunity to explore at your leisure this evening.

    meal(s):Full Breakfast
    hotel:Sheraton Seattle
  10. You're free to explore Seattle on your terms with your choice sightseeing giving you a chance to visit the fantastical glass sculptures of Chihuly Garden and Glass Art Museum or take a trip to the top of the landmark Space Needle. Our next stop is the historic Pike Place Market, the nation's oldest farmer's market, where the fish fly low-from one fishmonger's hands to the next. Indulge in the market's spirit of meeting the producer, then join your newfound friends for a Farewell Dinner.

    meal(s):Full Breakfast, Farewell Dinner
  11. It's time to bid farewell to your fellow adventurers and take your transfer to Seattle International Airport or perhaps extend your stay.

    meal(s):Full Breakfast

Service rating : Our travel director was excellent and provided snacks, surprises, and interesting information; he provided quiet time between the tidbits of information. One suggestion: review the manner of getting off the bus. Rotating seats is as it should be; perhaps rotating sides also would be fairer in terms of who gets to go to the bathroom first. As usual, we had many more women than men although it was more equal than many trips that I have been on.
Vacation : This is a very nice trip although it has extensive riding; that would be expected when you look at the distance to be covered but may not be suitable for everyone. I would not recommend it for young children. We had five children from age 5 to age 13; it was difficult for the five-year-old to manage that much riding and being relatively quiet.

Service rating : This was a very good tour, but lacked any "WoW" factor. The closest thing was the Dune Buggies!

Vacation : Hotels in Eureka and Coos Bay were below par, however, we had an excellent included dinner in Eureka. The dinner in Newport was not satisfactory. We were in a conference room and the meal was like something served at a business meeting! The chicken and corn were overcooked and the only drink choices were ice tea or water. Several of the buffet breakfasts were not hot. The breakfast in Newport was excellent, but the staff was overwhelmed by 50+ tourists lined up at 0700 and trying to make an 0830 bus, We arrived both mornings before 0700 and were not served until about 0740. The seats in the coach are too close together (worse than on airplanes), and there needs to be a second door. People on this tour are older and if there is an emergency, Those in the back will not get out. Emergency window exits will not allow them to get out by themselves. The Quinault Lodge was old but very nice. It was as nice as some in National Parks. We should have spent another day there and only one day in Portland. At Quinault Lake, there were plenty of nearby opportunities for hiking or exploring. The dinner there was excellent but the breakfast was not warm and no bread or toast was provided. The optional experience in Portland was not worth the money. The local guide was very knowledgeable, but nothing on the walk was that interesting. The meal at Huber's was ordinary. The individual who made the "Spanish Coffee" seemed to be surprise that people would take pictures and contorted his face and body with every flash photo! We did not need two nights in Portland. The "Wild Northwest" is not in the cities! More adventures like the Dune-buggies would be great. A couple of the places we stopped as for lunch on our own were rundown strip malls with little choice of food! The Travel Director, Tyson, was excellent, very knowledgeable, and willing to work to make things special. He set up a special surprise at a park that include champagne mimosas and pastries! He road his bicycle ahead to the park to prepare for us! We enjoyed this tour and will likely try GET/Trafalgar again.

  • We suggest bringing a variety of lightweight clothing items that can be layered to save space in your suitcase and give you more options for how to dress. For more helpful information please refer to our Packing Tips & Packing List.

  • At the end of your guided vacation, it’s customary to offer your motor coach driver and Travel Director a gratuity.  We recommend $4-5 per person/per day for your driver and $6-7 per person/per day for your Travel Director.  Recommended gratuity for a Local Host and Local Specialist is 1-2 dollars per person, paid at the conclusion of each guided visit.  A convenient option is to prepay your tips before your departure.

  • Baggage on our trips is restricted to one large suitcase per person with dimensions not exceeding 30x19x10 inches and a maximum weight of 50 pounds. You are also permitted one piece of hand luggage, which should be small enough to fit under your coach seat or on the small overhead shelf compartment. Please note that luggage with an adjustable handle and wheels will not fit in the overhead compartment of the coach. Hotel porterage is included in your vacation.

  • You will need to be comfortable on your feet, walking and standing for up to three hours in various weather conditions.  All of our vacations involve walking, often on cobblestone and uneven surfaces in historic city centers.  In order to get the most out of your vacation you need to be able to comfortably walk 1-3 miles unassisted in one day, be in good condition and be able to keep pace with the group.

If you need any medications, it is important that you bring enough to last you the whole trip and keep them in your carry-on bag while you travel.

  • We highly recommend our optional Travel Protection Plan, which allows you to cancel for any reason up to 24 hours before departure. The plan also includes trip interruption, baggage loss or delay, and medical and emergency assistance. Click here for a summary of coverage details, terms and conditions.
