  3. Delve into a city reunited only decades ago, exploring the landmarks of the old East and West sections of Berlin during your sightseeing tour with a Local Specialist. See the Brandenburg Gate, Unter den Linden and the Reichstag Building - all major points of focus in 1989 during the reunification of East and West Germany. Cross through the Cold War gateway of Checkpoint Charlie and visit the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe (Holocaust Memorial) before spending the rest of the day at leisure to explore the city's creative pulse. This evening we gain a Cultural Insight into hearty German hospitality at a local brewery where we'll indulge in some of the city's finest brews and encounter first-hand its strong brewing traditions. Later, ask your Travel Director for suggestions on where to dine this evening.
  4. This morning, we trace vivid splashes of color along the wall murals of East Side Gallery – an ironic celebration of freedom on a tyrannical wall that once divided this vibrant city. We continue to Hackescher Markt where we join our Local Specialist for a fascinating walking tour of this cultural area, visiting the Courtyard of Haus Schwarzenberg which today retains its artistic flair from yesteryear. After free time for lunch, we return to central Berlin with a drop off at Museum Island where we have an opportunity to visit its museums. Amble through the Pergamon Museum housing monumental buildings such as the Ishtar Gate of Babylon, and the Market Gate of Miletus reconstructed from the ruins found in ancient Middle East and Turkey. This evening, we ascend the iconic Berlin TV Tower where we'll enjoy a glass of sparkling wine on the observation deck before visiting a local restaurant and indulging in traditional German flavors for dinner with newfound friends.
    meal(s):BB, RM
  5. Spend a full day at leisure exploring this spacious city – its buildings old and new set amidst verdant parks and along the River Spree. Perhaps consider an Optional Experience to Sachsenhausen Memorial Museum built on the site of a concentration camp that fell under the command of Heinrich Himmler and was the model for other camps during World War II. Join a Local Specialist for a sightseeing tour through its tragic corridors which once housed hundreds of thousands of prisoners and gain a deep understanding of the atrocities that occurred here. Get a real taste of the city with Trafalgar's exclusive Eatwith Optional Experiences. Share delicious traditional flavors with a local family in their home.

  6. An air of royalty awaits as we travel to the seat of Prussian kings over centuries. Enjoy a full-day excursion to Potsdam, stopping en route on the shores of Greater Wannsee, the incongruously beautiful setting for the infamous 1942 conference to plan the 'Final Solution'. Next we'll cross Glienicke Bridge, the so-called "Bridge of Spies" of Cold War spy swaps fame. Reaching Potsdam, we continue to King Frederick's beautiful Park Sanssouci, a UNESCO World Heritage Site dotted with castles and temples, before returning to Berlin for a Farewell Dinner to mark our memorable visit.
    meal(s):BB, FD
  7. This morning we say a fond Auf Wiedersehen to our Travel Director and travel companions as our journey comes to an end. Return transfers on the last travel day will arrive at Berlin Tegel Airport at 8 am and 10 am. Conditions apply.

Trip not yet reviewed
  • U.S. citizens traveling to Germany must have a current passport valid for six months beyond the conclusion of their trip. You can find information on how to apply for a passport here, and how to renew a passport here. No visa is required for U.S. citizens entering Germany.

  • The currency in Germany is the Euro (€). While it’s a good idea to bring some money for when you first arrive in Germany, you’ll usually find a better exchange rate in your destination.  The most convenient way to obtain cash is to use your ATM card at local banks in Germany. We recommend you also bring a valid credit card for purchases while you are traveling.  It is important that you inform your financial institutions of your travel plans before you leave home so they don’t flag your purchases as potentially fraudulent charges.

  • Traditional German cuisine is rich and delicious.  Try specialties including a variety of bratwurst with sauerkraut, cold cuts, spätzle and potato dumplings.  For dessert you cannot miss the world famous Black Forest Gateau.   Beer is a big part of German culture; sample a variety of German offerings including pilsner, Kölsch and sour beers.  In Frankfurt, try the local cider (Apfelwein).   Wine is also popular throughout Germany, and world-class whites are produced in the Rhine and Mosel regions.

  • We recommend packing layers to save space in your suitcase and give you more options for how to dress.  It’s important to bring comfortable walking shoes and a waterproof jacket with a hood. For more helpful information please refer to our Packing Tips & Packing List.

  • Service and VAT are typically included in the price of food at restaurants in Germany.  When leaving a tip, it is appropriate to simply round up your bill or leave up to 10 percent.   Rather than leaving your money on the table, be prepared to leave it with your waiter when you pay your bill.  If you are expecting change, simply tell them how much you will need back after gratuity.

At the end of your guided vacation, it’s customary to offer your motor coach driver and Travel Director a gratuity.  We recommend €3.00 per person/per day for your driver and €5.00 per person/per day for your Travel Director.  Recommended gratuity for a Local Host and Local Specialist is 1-2 euros per person, paid at the conclusion of each guided visit.  A convenient option is to prepay your tips before your departure.

  • Baggage on our trips is restricted to one large suitcase per person with dimensions not exceeding 30x19x10 inches and a maximum weight of 50 pounds. You are also permitted one piece of hand luggage, which should be small enough to fit under your coach seat or on the small overhead shelf compartment. Please note that luggage with an adjustable handle and wheels will not fit in the overhead compartment of the coach. Hotel porterage is included in your vacation.

  • You will need to be comfortable on your feet, walking and standing for up to three hours in various weather conditions.  All of our vacations involve walking, often on cobblestone and uneven surfaces in historic city centers.  In order to get the most out of your vacation you need to be able to comfortably walk 1-3 miles unassisted in one day, be in good condition and be able to keep pace with the group.

If you need any medications, it is important that you bring enough to last you the whole trip and keep them in your carry-on bag while you travel.

  • We highly recommend our optional Travel Protection Plan, which allows you to cancel for any reason up to 24 hours before departure. The plan also includes trip interruption, baggage loss or delay, and medical and emergency assistance. Click here for a summary of coverage details, terms and conditions.

Optional Experiences are subject to change. Your Travel Director will supply you with a final list of Optional Experiences available on your trip. Optional Experiences cannot be booked online; they can be purchased during your trip through your Travel Director.
