  • U.S. citizens traveling to UK and Ireland must have a current passport that is valid for six months beyond the conclusion of their trip. You can find information on how to apply for a passport here, and how to renew a passport here. No visa is required for U.S. citizens entering the UK or Ireland.

  • The currency in the UK is the Pound (£) and in Ireland is the Euro (€). While it’s a good idea to bring some money for when you first arrive, you’ll usually find a better exchange rate in your destination.  The most convenient way to obtain cash is to use your ATM card at local banks in the UK and Ireland. We recommend you also bring a valid credit card for purchases while you are traveling.  It is important that you inform your financial institutions of your travel plans before you leave home so they don’t flag your purchases as potentially fraudulent charges.

  • English specialties include fish and chips, Yorkshire pudding, sausages, stilton cheese, and scones with clotted cream. Culinary experiences to not to miss include a traditional pub meal, afternoon tea, and full English breakfast.  In larger cities like London you’ll also find restaurants serving a variety of international cuisine.

Food and drink in Scotland goes far beyond haggis, porridge, and whiskey.  Specialties to try include kippers, fish and chips, Scotch broth, smoked salmon, sausages, shortbread, and Dundee cake.  For a meal that’s inexpensive and authentic, try a pub meal with a pint of Scottish ale.

Irish specialties including Irish stew, coddle, potato bread, corned beef and whiskey cake. Be sure to visit a local chip shop for fresh fish and chips, and sample Irish ales in a traditional pub.

  • The climate in the UK and Ireland is temperate, with regular rainfall throughout the year. We suggest packing a variety of lightweight clothing items that can be layered to save space in your suitcase and give you more options for how to dress.  A few important items to bring include sturdy walking shoes and a waterproof jacket with a hood. For more helpful information please refer to our Packing Tips & Packing List.

  • Tipping is less common than in the U.S. When dining out, some restaurants will add a service charge of 12.5 percent to your bill, especially for groups.  If a service hasn’t been added, it’s appropriate to leave 10 – 15 percent gratuity.

At the end of your guided vacation, it’s customary to offer your motor coach driver and Travel Director a gratuity. We recommend €3.00 per person/per day for your driver and €5.00 per person/per day for your Travel Director.  Recommended gratuity for a Local Host and Local Specialist is 1-2 euros per person, paid at the conclusion of each guided visit.  A convenient option is to prepay your tips before your departure.

  • Baggage on our trips is restricted to one large suitcase per person with dimensions not exceeding 30x19x10 inches and a maximum weight of 50 pounds. You are also permitted one piece of hand luggage, which should be small enough to fit under your coach seat or on the small overhead shelf compartment. Please note that luggage with an adjustable handle and wheels will not fit in the overhead compartment of the coach. Hotel porterage is included in your vacation.

  • You will need to be comfortable on your feet, walking and standing for up to three hours in various weather conditions.  All of our vacations involve walking, often on cobblestone and uneven surfaces in historic city centers.  In order to get the most out of your vacation you need to be able to comfortably walk 1-3 miles unassisted in one day, be in good condition and be able to keep pace with the group.

If you need any medications, it is important that you bring enough to last you the whole trip and keep them in your carry-on bag while you travel.

  • We highly recommend our optional Travel Protection Plan, which allows you to cancel for any reason up to 24 hours before departure. The plan also includes trip interruption, baggage loss or delay, and medical and emergency assistance. Click here for a summary of coverage details, terms and conditions.

Service rating : Our tour director, Chris, was fabulous. A gold mine of information and always going the extra mile to be sure every detail was covered. The hotels were generally excellent, although there was one change made by the hotel that was not up to the level of other stays. They compensated by paying for our evening at a pub.
Response from Grand European Travel:
That's fantastic to hear and we are so appreciative of you taking the time to share your experience. Thank you!

Vacation : The tour director made the difference. As a group we all bonded, singing on the bus, enjoying each other's company. Excursion was great even though I didn't think they would be at first.

Service rating : Everything was fine, Chris was great. But will I get a refund because my gal got sick and cancelled??? Read on net,....AON affinity never gives a refund. Bought it through GET/Trafalgar. I always get the best insurance I can get and through the tour company in stead of a private carrier. Mr. Rainwater was very helpful.
Response from Grand European Travel:
The insurance company is working on your claim. We suggest following up with them directly for any updates.\nWe appreciate your business and hope that all is well with your friend.

Service rating : Cat and Richie were awesome. They worked so well together as Tour Guide and Bus Driver that they made the tour very enjoyable. The tour was excellent with one minor complaint. The hotel rooms in Glasgow were very below standard and feel that if at all possible, changes should be made with those accommodations. We had a wonderful time and would highly recommend this tour to all our friends.
Response from Grand European Travel:
We are so pleased to see that you enjoyed the expertise of Cat and Richie! They are both an asset to our team. We do apologize for the conditions of the hotel in Glasgow. WE will be certain to share this information with our team in London. Thank you for sharing your experience.

Service rating : We thought that, overall, the tour was great. The mornings were a bit early for those of us who are over 70 Years old. The pace was about right for a Luxury tour. The number of locations and small out of the way places were super. We would travel with GET again and will recommend them to our friends and relations.

Service rating : Easy way to improve, do NOT plan every excursion so we sit in the bus all day. we always arrived after 7PM, WE HAD NO TIME TO VISIT THE CITY WHERE OUR ROOM WAS BOOKED. BACK TO THE HOTEL AFTER 7PM THEN MOST STORES ARE CLOSED. EITHER THE DIRECTOR OR TRAFALGAR DID NOT PLAN TRIP. ALWAYS LATE, BUS DRIVER HAVING TO REST SO WE JUST SIT THERE. I E MAILED IN ALREADY AND SEEMS AGENT DID NOT READ THE E MAIL. WE HAVE BEEN ALL OVER THE WORLD MANY TIMES, THIS WAS THE WORST PLANNED TRIPS THAN WE HAVE SEEN. MY WIFE IS A RETIRED TRAVEL AGENT, SHE COULD NOT BELIEVE THE GET UP EARLY, 30 MINUTES TO EAT WITH AT LEAST 50 PEOPLE TRYING TO EAT AND RUN, EVERY MORNING, WE SPOKE WITH ANOTHER COUPLE ON ANOTHER TRAVALGAR TRIP. THEY ALWAYS RETURNED TO HOTEL BY 4 PM SO HAD PLENTY OF TIME. WE WERE TALKED INTO A SUPPOSED BETTER TIER TOUR, THIS WAS NOT IT. HOTELS NO SOAP, SOME ROOMS BY RAILROAD TRACK, RUNNING ALL NIGHT. THIS WAS OUR FIRST GET AND TRAVAGAR TRIP. WE HAVE A BAD TASTE AND STILL THERE. WE ARRIVED IN LONDON WAS TOLD SOMEONE WITH CAR SERVIVE WOULD BE WAITING FOR US. NO ONE THERE. MY WIFE HAD TO GET ANOTHER TRAVEL CO. TO CALL TRAVALGAR, THEN TOOK ANOTHER HOUR AT LEAST TO GET HER THERE THEN TOOK OVER AN HOUR TO GET TAXI SERVICE WITH TRAVAGAR. THIS IS AFTER 16 HOURS IN PLANE AND AIR[PORTS. SOUNDS FUN , SO THEN SO LATE GETTING TO HOTEL, NO TIME TO SEE ANYTHING, NEXT MORNING ON THE BUS AND GONE, NO LONDON, FIRST DAY IN LONDON A WASTE, SOUND FUN AND WAS SUPPOSED TO BE UPSCALE TRIP. 2 OR 3 HOTELS WERE MAYBE 4 STAR THE REST WOULD BE LUCKY TO BE 3 STAR.
Response from Grand European Travel:
We are sorry to hear that the trip did not meet your expectations.  Our Guest Relations department has already reached out to you to discuss the matter further.  Thank you for bringing these issues to our attention.

Vacation : WE HAD PLANNED ON A MORE COSTSAVER TRIP BUT AGENT TOLD US THE BETTER TRIP WOULD BE WORTH THE EXTRA COST. IF THIS WAS THE BETTEWR UPSCALE, I WOULD NOT WANT TO HAVE BEEN IN COSTSAVER. MIGHT HAVE HAD TO ROOM WITH OTHER GUEST. LOOKS TO US BECAUSE WE ARE WITH A GROUP, WE CAN BE TREATED BY HOTELS AS WE ARE NOT PAYING FULL FARE SO YOU ARE NOUT GETTING FULLFARE ROOM.

Service rating : GET arranged everything very efficiently. My only criticism is that, since we were novice travelers, I wish we had been guided more on options that would have made our travel more comfortable/less stressful, such as how to get expedited customs passes, and upgraded seating on the plane.
Response from Grand European Travel:
Thank you for your comments and suggestions.  We will take a closer look at them and see if we can do a better job communicating those options.

Vacation : This tour was too active for us, with not enough downtime. 2-3 stops a day is a bit much. To be fair, they promise an overview of Britain and Ireland, and they did deliver that.
