Between the big ticket items of New York, Washington, D.C. and Niagara Falls, this fascinating journey runs the gamut of American history and surprises with an eclectic mix of visits that are pure Americana.
In the morning, immerse yourself in the proud heritage of a nation. View The White House, the striking Washington Monument and sprawling National Mall. Reflect on the country's most turbulent days at the Lincoln Memorial and the somber World War II Memorial. The rest of the day is at leisure to chart your own course through the capital. Suggestions include one of the renowned Smithsonian museums or a stroll around Dupont Circle.
Depart for Gettysburg. Cannons blazing, trumpets sounding, the blue and the gray – your Local Expert uncovers it all at the site of one of the Civil War's most pivotal battles. Just four months after the historic struggle, the battlefield was also the backdrop for Abraham Lincoln's call for ‘a new birth of freedom' in his famed Gettysburg Address. Move on to Pittsburgh, the City of Bridges. Enjoy a Highlight Dinner at the award-winning restaurant LeMont.
Travel to the rural town of Punxsutawney, and learn firsthand about an important part of American folklore. The town is most famous for its resident groundhog, Phil. Every year he emerges from his burrow and predicts whether there will be six more weeks of winter, or an early spring, based in whether or not he sees his shadow. Meet with a member of the "Inner Circle," a small group of local dignitaries and business leaders who act as Phil's caregivers throughout the year. Cross the border and into Niagara Falls where your hotel overlooks the majestic Horseshoe Falls in all its glory.
View thundering Niagara Falls during a cruise to the base of the cascades. The region's climate is ideal for wine-making so embark on a night of culinary delights, with a Highlight Dinner at a family-owned winery. Taste their award-winning wines, including ice wine - a regional specialty made from grapes that froze while still on the vine. Sample some of Niagara's local cuisine, created with seasonal ingredients.

We recommend $4-5 per person/per day for your driver and $6-7 per person/per day for your Travel Director. Recommended gratuity for a Local Host and Local Specialist is 1-2 dollars per person, paid at the conclusion of each guided visit. A convenient option is to prepay your tips before your departure.
Baggage on our trips is restricted to one large suitcase per person with dimensions not exceeding 30x19x10 inches and a maximum weight of 50 pounds. You are also permitted one piece of hand luggage, which should be small enough to fit under your coach seat or on the small overhead shelf compartment. Please note that luggage with an adjustable handle and wheels will not fit in the overhead compartment of the coach. Hotel porterage is included in your vacation.
You will need to be comfortable on your feet, walking and standing for up to three hours in various weather conditions. All of our vacations involve walking, often on cobblestone and uneven surfaces in historic city centers. In order to get the most out of your vacation you need to be able to comfortably walk 1-3 miles unassisted in one day, be in good condition and be able to keep pace with the group.
If you need any medications, it is important that you bring enough to last you the whole trip and keep them in your carry-on bag while you travel.
We highly recommend our optional Travel Protection Plan, which allows you to cancel for any reason up to 48 hours before departure. The plan also includes trip interruption, baggage loss or delay, and medical and emergency assistance. Click here for a summary of coverage details, terms and conditions.
