  1. Welcome to California. On arrival at San Francisco International Airport, your transfer takes you to your hotel. At 18:00, join your Tour Director for a Welcome Reception with drinks and a light meal.

  2. Spend the morning with your Tour Director, taking in the sights of the city – the bustling activity in Union Square and beautiful Golden Gate Park.

  3. Join your Local Expert, a former hippie, for a walking tour of Haight-Ashbury for a flashback to the Flower Power era. Enter California wine country, walk through vineyards and enjoy a private tasting. In the evening, you are treated to a Highlight Dinner with local wine.

  4. Travel through California's Gold Country to Yosemite National Park. Explore the valley floor with its spectacular waterfalls, the imposing rock formations and abundant wildlife.   5. Drive down the Sierras and through the fertile San Joaquin Valley.   6. Head south to 'The Enchanted Hill', high above the ocean at San Simeon, for a guided tour of Hearst Castle, the grandiose estate of publishing magnate William Randolph Hearst. Continue south to the resort town of Santa Barbara, often billed as the 'American Riviera'. Check in to your beachfront hotel.

  8. In the morning, spot the Hollywood Sign during your sightseeing tour and view Grauman's Chinese Theatre. Farmers Market with a Local Expert to take you through the collection of restaurants and shops for a tasting taking time to explore on your own.   9. Travel across the Mojave Desert wilderness. Arrive in Scottsdale, where you can spend the afternoon relaxing at your idyllic resort and spa.

  10. Head north to the quaint bohemian colony of Sedona, where you can browse the stores and galleries, before travelling on to Grand Canyon National Park. Perhaps take an optional flightseeing tour by helicopter or plane over this natural wonder. Spend the night inside the park, enjoying the peace and quiet after the crowds have departed. During your stay, join a Local Expert for an informative presentation about the wonders of the Grand Canyon.   11. Head to the historic Cameron Trading Post, featuring Southwest American Indian arts and crafts. Stop at the Glen Canyon Dam to learn about its impact on the Colorado River before arriving at your lakefront resort.

  • We suggest bringing a variety of lightweight clothing items that can be layered to save space in your suitcase and give you more options for how to dress. For more helpful information please refer to our Packing Tips & Packing List.

  • At the end of your guided vacation, it’s customary to offer your motor coach driver and Travel Director a gratuity.  We recommend $4-5 per person/per day for your driver and $6-7 per person/per day for your Travel Director.  Recommended gratuity for a Local Host and Local Specialist is 1-2 dollars per person, paid at the conclusion of each guided visit.  A convenient option is to prepay your tips before your departure.

  • Baggage on our trips is restricted to one large suitcase per person with dimensions not exceeding 30x19x10 inches and a maximum weight of 50 pounds. You are also permitted one piece of hand luggage, which should be small enough to fit under your coach seat or on the small overhead shelf compartment. Please note that luggage with an adjustable handle and wheels will not fit in the overhead compartment of the coach. Hotel porterage is included in your vacation.

  • You will need to be comfortable on your feet, walking and standing for up to three hours in various weather conditions.  All of our vacations involve walking, often on cobblestone and uneven surfaces in historic city centers.  In order to get the most out of your vacation you need to be able to comfortably walk 1-3 miles unassisted in one day, be in good condition and be able to keep pace with the group. 

    If you need any medications, it is important that you bring enough to last you the whole trip and keep them in your carry-on bag while you travel.

  • We highly recommend our optional Travel Protection Plan, which allows you to cancel for any reason up to 24 hours before departure.
