  1. Day 1 Arrive Madrid (2 Nights)

Elegant Madrid kick-starts your exciting journey across Spain, Morocco and Portugal. Upon arrival, check in to your hotel and relax. If you'd prefer to skip the siesta, take to the city's golden streets for a glimpse of what this football-crazed metropolis has in store. The real fun begins this evening when you meet your Travel Director and fellow travel compañeros, followed by some time to curb your craving for tapas and get to grips with why the Madrileños adore their nightlife.

    hotel Meliá Avenida América
  2. Day 2 Madrid Sightseeing and Free Time

There is plenty to see in the lively Spanish capital, so we get right to it this morning, joining a Local Specialist for a sightseeing tour to view the Cibeles Fountain, the Gran Vía and Paseo de la Castellana. Admire the Royal Palace then spend your afternoon exploring the city further or consider an Optional Experience to the UNESCO-listed city of Segovia. Marvel at the impressive towering arches of the ancient Roman aqueduct and trace the ornate esgrafiado façades that are characteristic of the city's most important buildings before returning to Madrid.

    meals Breakfast
  3. Day 3 Madrid – Toledo – Granada (1 Night)

Set your sights firmly on Toledo today, embarking on a scenic journey south through the windswept plateau of La Mancha where the fictional Don Quixote and his trusty companion Sancho Panza once roamed. View the enchanting skyline of the ancient hilltop city known as the "City of Three Cultures" - the influences of Christians, Muslims and Jews are reflected in the city's history, culture and religion. Then, join your Local Specialist who will lead you on a captivating walking tour past the impressive cathedral and into an ancient white and golden synagogue. Visit a steel workshop to see first-hand how Toledo's famous steel-craft has evolved over centuries, then continue to the former Moor stronghold of Granada. What better way to end the day than by choosing to watch an optional fiery Gypsy performance in Old Granada?

    meals Breakfast, Dinner
    hotel Macia Condor
  4. Day 4 Granada – Costa Del Sol (1 Night)

Lace up your walking shoes and take to Granada's narrow cobbled streets for an independent exploration of a city whose Arab influences remain in its Moorish architecture, tetería tea houses and even hammams. Delve into its Arab history and culture during an Optional Experience visit to the Albaicín Quarter, the city's oldest neighbourhood and its characteristic cármenes (Moorish houses). On the hilltop overlooking the city is the fortified citadel of the Alhambra - its opulent palaces and gardens the former seat of Granada's Nasrid emirs. Later, continue south to the sun-kissed Andalusian holiday retreat of Malaga, the gateway to Spain's popular Costa del Sol and the birthplace of Pablo Picasso. This evening an Optional Experience could see you visit the hill-top village of Mijas for spectacular coastal views followed by a Mediterranean dinner.

    meals Breakfast
    hotel Sol Guadalmar/Tryp Alameda
  5. Day 5 Costa Del Sol – Fes (2 Nights)

Follow the coast to the edge of the Strait of Gibraltar, which you'll cross this morning bound for Moroccan shores. A short ferry ride brings us to Tangier - the shimmering haze of the Atlas Mountains looms ahead as we begin our journey south towards the imperial city of Fes. There's more to Morocco than mint tea and medinas, and you'll have an opportunity to explore the country's rich and diverse experiences over the coming days. Your Moroccan guide will reveal insights into Morocco's proud culture, heritage and cuisine as you wind your way south. The dramatic Rif Mountains, labyrinthine markets and ornate palaces are just some of the highlights to look forward to during your stay here.

    meals Breakfast, Dinner
    hotel Menzeh Zalagh
  6. Day 6 Fes Sightseeing and Free Time

There's no out-haggling the enterprising vendors of the Fes Medina as you'll experience for yourself during a guided visit through the hidden alleyways and main squares of this ancient marketplace. Visit a carpet weaving cooperative and admire the delicate craftsmanship and stories behind every deliberate knot, images immortalised in silk and wool, and the colours symbolising special occasions. With your afternoon free, you'll have plenty of time to enjoy Fes on your own terms or visit Meknes Imperial City on an Optional Experience. This evening, consider joining an Optional Experience in a traditional Riad, including a traditional Arabian feast and joyful belly dancing.

    meals Breakfast
  7. Day 7 Fes – Marrakesh (2 Nights)

The Red City beckons and we leave Fes behind, following in the footsteps of traders who would journey to Marrakesh to sell their ceramics, glassware, spices and handmade carpets. Today Marrakesh remains home to some of Morocco's most vibrant souks, enveloped in the city's characteristic red sandstone façades, which you will have an opportunity to explore during your stay. The endless streets of Marrakesh have long enticed curious travellers like you, seeking to uncover its bewitching blend of Arab and Berber influences, so prepare for sensory overload and some hearty haggling.

    meals Breakfast
    hotel Atlas Asni
  8. Day 8 Marrakesh Sightseeing and Free Time

There's only one way to tackle Marrakesh and that's to embrace its heady, hectic pace, so dive straight in and join your Local Specialist for a guided sightseeing tour to gain your bearings. Visit the ornate Bahia Palace, then head to Djemaa el-Fna Square where snake charmers, food vendors and twirling Gwana dancers vie for your attention. You'll have plenty of time for some bargain hunting amidst the souks and bazaars this afternoon, or join an Optional Experience to a Berber village in the Ourika Valley to gain insights into their way of life. Returning to Marrakesh, you may wish to head back to Djemaa el-Fna Square for an exhilarating encounter with the city's nightlife once the square comes alive after a sizzling day. Why not end the evening with an optional dinner at a local Moroccan restaurant with music?

    meals Breakfast, Dinner
  9. Day 9 Marrakesh – Casablanca – Rabat – Tangier (1 Night)

Our first stop today is in the city that inspired a Hollywood classic. Our scenic drive through the sophisticated city of Casablanca reveals both Arabic and French influences as we embark on a panoramic drive of the Corniche and enjoy views of the impressive Hassan II Mosque, featuring the world's tallest minaret. We continue to Morocco's modern capital, Rabat, where we'll have an opportunity to view the Royal Palace and Mohammed V Mausoleum, the final resting place of the former Moroccan king and his two sons. Our final night in Morocco is spent in Tangier, where you'll have a free evening to stroll along its beach promenade or get lost in the Kasbah - the choice is yours.

    meals Breakfast, Dinner
    hotel Chellah/Farah
  10. Day 10 Tangier – Seville (2 Nights)

We return to Spain this morning, crossing the Straits of Gibraltar and heading north to Seville, home of the flamenco, the Seville orange and scorching Spanish summers. But it is the 12th-century Cathedral of Seville, the Plaza de España (hidden behind deceptively understated walls) and one of Spain's most beautiful Alcázars that make Seville a true feast for the senses. Spend the evening relaxing in preparation for a day of sightseeing tomorrow which will reveal why the city has been the favourite winter retreat of Spanish royalty for centuries.

    meals Breakfast, Dinner
    hotel MA Congresos
  11. Day 11 Seville Sightseeing and Free Time

Admire the great monuments, handsome pavilions and lush gardens of Seville when you join a Local Specialist for a sightseeing tour of the Plaza de España, Maria Luisa Park and Seville's Old Quarter. View the spectacular Cathedral of Seville, the largest Gothic cathedral in the world and the site of Christopher Columbus's tomb. Its Giralda bell tower was originally built as a minaret for the Great Mosque of Seville and you'll get to see it in all its glory, before enjoying the rest of the day on your own. When the sun sets over this golden city, with the aroma of jasmine and orange blossom lingering around every turn, consider a foot-tapping Optional Experience at a flamenco show.

    meals Breakfast
  12. Day 12 Seville – Lisbon (2 Nights)

Our visit to Spain is short-lived, but it's not farewell forever, as we head west across the Iberian Peninsula to Portugal. Our journey takes us through the rolling golden and green plains of the Alentejo, Portugal's bread-basket. Continuing north, we arrive in the seafaring capital of Lisbon to enjoy an evening on your own to unwind after the day's journey. If you're tempted to take to its cobblestone streets, join your Travel Director for a poignant Optional Experience in the city's Bairro Alto district for a traditional meal accompanied with the melancholic sounds of fado.

    meals Breakfast
    hotel VIP Executive Santa Iria
  13. Day 13 Lisbon Sightseeing and Free Time

Explore the Age of the Discoveries and Portugal's role as a global maritime power many centuries ago when you join a Local Specialist for a sightseeing tour to Belém on the edge of the Tagus River. See the alabaster-white Belém Tower, the Monument to the Discoveries and the iconic Hieronymite before taking the rest of the day to explore on your own. Hop on one of Lisbon's signature trams rolling along the city's cinematic hillsides and you'll quickly discover leafy squares and countless corner tascas (taverns) for a quick coffee and pasteis de nata (custard tartlet) fix. Perhaps choose an Optional Experience where you will visit Portugal's Golden Triangle of Cascais, Estoril and Sintra and see some of the country's most extravagant palaces during your free afternoon. This evening, consider an optional seafood dinner and views of the mighty Tagus for the perfect end to your Lisbon visit.

    meals Breakfast
  14. Day 14 Lisbon – Fátima – Salamanca (1 Night)

We travel to Fátima where three young shepherds are said to have seen an apparition of the Virgin Mary in 1917. You'll rub shoulders with visiting pilgrims who have come to pray and seek divine guidance as you explore the Basilica Chapel and Sanctuary on your own. Leaving this site of celebrated religious miracles behind, you'll continue your journey across the border to Spain and arrive in Salamanca later. Join your Travel Director for a brief orientation of the city, past golden façades and ancient university buildings followed by an evening on your own. Sit back in the city's 18th-century Plaza Mayor and wait for sunset when the square lights up and its Baroque buildings provide a gleaming backdrop for a drink or two.

    meals Breakfast
    hotel Vincci Ciudad
  15. Day 15 Salamanca – Madrid (1 Night)

From beginning to end this trip was handled with professionalism and personal care. We always knew the "who, what, where and when" details of our travel experience. In addition our tour guide Rafael, took special care of us when my husband had an asthma attack by taking us back to the hotel by taxi. Thank you Rafeal.
Vacation
This was our first trip to Spain, Morocco and Portugal. We loved seeing the colorful sites, learning historical facts and seeing the cultural differences of each country. Our tour guides were great sharing their wisdom and knowledge. We had some difficult people and situations on our tour that our tour guide, Rafael handled very professionally. Thank you Rafael.

Best value for the price. So much info from our Travel Director. Our Driver was so helpful getting us to places on time and assisting those who needed help off and on the coach. Gave extra touches to our luggage when we had to access our carry ones from time to time.

Yes I would recommend Costsaver with the caveat that future travelers are clear about what to expect. Just by looking at the tour map, one should expect long bus rides but along scenic vistas. If you dont enjoy long bus rides you should consider a shorter trip. Also hotels in Morocco will be sub par compared to Spain and Portugal, which have already been reported by other travelers. Just be ready. Another surprise was having to carry your heavy bags through immigration screening to and from Morocco and Spain. Trafalgar should hire porters to assist. After all many travelers are AARP members.
Vacation
Be ready that Trafalgar will be pushing rather expensive optionals which vould raise your total cost by 30%. The hotels will be located away from the center of town so do your research so you can go see sights and dinners on your own. Otherwise you will have no choice but to sign up for expensive optionals. Be ready for high pressure sales pitches when tour is herded into carpet, leather and other vendor presentstions. Carry enough change to tip local specialists. Be ready for long walks inside the Fes Medina. 3 hours at least. During the included dinners, please add more bottles of water at the tables. In fact shouldn't this be unlimited? After the 2 bottles were consumed at a table for 8-10 travelers, any extra water had to be paid extra. Overall the tour was great. The tour director Javier was very organized, knowledgeable and always entertaining. (Thank you for thr Guitarra Espanola CD!). The bus was very comfortable and always kept clean and the drivers made us all feel safe. One sugeestion regarding seat rotation — i suggest that the starting seat assignments be done by lottery. 3 Exotic countries in 17 days — very memorable.
Response from Grand European Travel:
We appreciate your honest feedback and will be sure to share it with the Quality Control team at Trafalgar.  We are happy to see that overall, you enjoyed the trip and cam home with some happy memories.

Service
Our travel specialist, Javier Galvez, was excellent, his leadership was wonderful and he handled everything perfectly. What wasn’t great was the hotel in Tangier, no ac, no tv, no telephone, but the worst was every glass in the dining room had big chips, that would have cut your lip if you weren’t careful. The hotel in Fez wasn’t much better. While I know our tour was a cost saver, I don’t expect to navigate around big chips in glasses. The majority of the hotels were wonderful, especially the one on the beach on Costa del Sol. Our fellow travelers were all very pleasant, enjoyable people, who were always on time for every meeting.
Vacation
Basically the same review especially as relates to the hotel in Tangiers and to a lesser extent, Fez.

Since I did not book the trip I did not fully understand the program and little could be found on the web site to educate me. Our tour guide and coach driver were professionals and the best part of the tour.
Vacation
Hotels were poor to average and the included food was poor. If you enjoy 15 days on a coach this trip is for you. 8-12 hours a day on a coach traveling between cities is not my idea of a holiday. To participate in daily "optional" tours would have cost you about 1/3 additional $ and more time on the coach (no thanks).
Response from Grand European Travel:
We are sorry to hear that Guided Vacations may not be the right fit for you.  We appreciate your honest feedback and wish you happy travels in the future.

Service
Hotels in Morocco were horrible, they smelled and looked dirty. Breakfast in Morocco was disgusting, it seemed they just reheated the left over dinner and served it for breakfast. Also we were always given free time prior to city tour, which I thought should have been done backwards. City tour then free time, would have made more sense. Maybe more time in Portugal and less in Morocco.
Vacation
I know it was a cost saver but the hotels in Morocco were dirty. I was very disappointed. I trusted Grand European and I felt I was lied to.
Response from Grand European Travel:
We are so sorry to hear this.  We will be sure to share your comments with Trafalgar's Quality control team right away.  It should not have made a difference if you were on a Cost Saver trip or a First Class trip.  Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

The tour guide director David Nadal was expectacular with everything from consideration with the people who had food allergies to tha pace of the elderly people. One thing that I was extremely disapointed was the hotel and breakfast of Moracco. I understand it was an economy saver trip but the hotels were scarry some of them worst than others but in general not what Gran European Tours usually offers. I would not considered taking another economy saver trip. I was told that hotel will be far from the town center but this ones were also in terrible conditions and some things were not even working properly.
Vacation
The Moroccan hotels were not in good conditions
