The travel consultant Tess that we worked with was always through, helpful and reassuring. She got back to us quickly with responses to our questions. Tess literally walked us through all our questions and eased our fears about traveling during Covid. We had originally book our trip for June of 2020 and had to postpone 2 times. She stuck with us and gave great advise.
Vacation
We loved our time on the land portion of our trip. We got to see and feel the essence of Alaska. The distances between locations where greater than we had anticipated but it is the reality of the vastness of Alaska. We liked our hotels and the places we saw. We were disappointed and upset that masks were not required on the bus. Even though we wore masks the whole time, several of us contracted Covid 2 days after boarding our ship which made for a very unpleasant second half of our trip in isolation. I would recommend the land portion but not the sea portion because disembarking in Canada was a nightmare.

1.I loved the tour in spite of the fact there was a lot of sitting for someone who doesn't like to sit. 2. Chris did a great job! Not his fault that I ended the trip with Covid but I won't travel again. Ken was a really nice man but what was he getting paid for? He suggested people wear masks but couldn't enforce it. Chris could have said this and I could have volunteered to squirt the hands of willing travelers with alcohol every time they were to board the bus. GET could have saved money without this "health coordinator" and thus travelers could have saved a bit too.

The largest majority of the trip was wonderful and fully met our expectations. The only shortcoming was the need for us to stop at grocery stores to purchase food for lunches which we had to eat on the bus.

I was extremely happy with the reservation process and follow up. Every question was answered and easy to reach.
Vacation
The tour itinerary was perfect, the 3 tour operators were wonderful, the bus was very comfortable. The only negative was the number of times we were directed to buy food in local grocery markets and then eat on the bus. The crew was very good about giving us a heads up and I know the area was very spread out, but box lunch offering or a route detour for even a small diner would have been appreciated. This was our 1st GET/Trafalgar trip but our 4 th bus tour ,2 US, 2 UK so we had some experience and preconceived ideas.

Dave Frontella always takes excellent care of us. I feel extremely confident when he handles our arrangements. If I contact him and leave a message, I always receive a super quick response.
Vacation
I really wanted to rate this 4 1/2. Alaska is a magnificient place-so gorgeous. The people are very friendly-such a joy. However, it is different from other tours in that some areas are very remote, not as many places to eat, (several times going to grocery stores to buy lunch) out houses instead of bathrooms in several areas. In addition, it was obvious that Trafalgar is cutting corners in small ways, but in several places. (maybe partly due to covid)...But all in all, a wonderful trip! The Wellness Director was super.

Best travel director we have ever had. Have been on 3 other trips with directors and by far the best. Also the wellness person - Linda and the bus driver were excellent. We prefer a more pampering vacation. This was an adventure not a vacation. Will ask more questions before signing up for my next trip. My husband said it all - "I kept thinking we were going to see the newer shinier side of Alaska but all we saw was the old rusty side. I figured out that that is just Alaska." So we wanted to see Alaska and we saw it with great guidance. We'll just pick a more pampered vacation next time. Booking with Alyssa was great too. Unfortunately I didn't get my Italy vacation due to Covid. And also the trip insurance not covering it was cheesy. I was appalled we could not get our money back with insurance. That was not her fault. Ended up moving the money to the Alaska trip. May not live long enough to get to Italy.
Response from Grand European Travel:
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience and concerns. We all hoped that Covid would have been in our rear view mirror by now. We hope that there were some pleasant memories made in Alaska and that you haven't quite given up hope on Italy just yet.
