Service rating : Better hotels, better buses, Better guide, our guide was as dumb as a brick . The food was good.
Vacation : The whole trip was so disorganized. The guide knew NOTHING. There was so much to learn, but he knew nothing. The bus driver knew more.
Response from Grand European Travel:
We're terribly sorry that your trip did not meet your expectations. We know that the Travel Director can certainly make or break a trip for our guests and we do apologize that this one fell short. We will be sure to pass your feedback onto our Quality Control team and ask for immediate improvement.

Service rating : The service was not what I have come to expect of GET
Vacation : The tour person was not very interesting. I think he tried to be entertaining and not informative

Vacation:
Service rating : The tour director informed me that he lived in Iceland most of his life and you would hardly know it from the info he supplied the tour group. His first screw up was that the boat trip to the northern lights included the pick up from the hotel and return to the hotel. When we got to the dock we were told that we had to pay for pick up and return to the hotel. We went on the trip and we didn't pay for the extra transportation
Vacation : The trip was very interesting and it would have been better if our tour director was better organized. And he told me that he did 2 toures each month.

Service rating : Yes I would book through them again. There was one mixup but other than this it was a very good trip. Hotels were nice especially in Rekjevik. We saw quite a bit each day but the Northern Lights were elusive due to the weather. Blue Lagoon was great
Vacation : Good buy with many included excursions
Response from Grand European Travel:
Thank you for your review. We're glad you enjoyed your trip to Iceland and were able to see so much of the country.

Service rating : The tour was wonderful. The plane connections were not. Air travel was a nightmare and exhausting--- several plane changes and having to re-enter through JFK. Probably would have to re-evaluate any trip with that stop.
Response from Grand European Travel:
We are so sorry to hear about your flight troubles.  Unfortunately, getting to Reykjavik is not an easy task from your home city. We always book the most direct flights available when you book your trip, but we are limited to the airlines schedules for some destinations.  Iceland would be one of those.  Hopefully your next trip will be more direct with less flying.

  • U.S. citizens traveling to Iceland must have a current passport valid for six months beyond the conclusion of their trip. You can find information on how to apply for a passport here, and how to renew a passport here. No visa is required for U.S. citizens entering Iceland.

  • The currency in Iceland is the Krona.  While it’s a good idea to bring some money for when you first arrive in Iceland, you can use your debit or credit card to pay in most places and you’ll likely find a better exchange rate in your destination.  The most convenient way to obtain cash is to use your ATM card at local banks in Iceland. We recommend you also bring a valid credit card for purchases while you are traveling.  It is important that you inform your financial institutions of your travel plans before you leave home so they don’t flag your purchases as potentially fraudulent charges.

  • Icelandic cuisine offers an abundance of fresh seafood.  Enjoy dishes prepared with fresh herring, salmon, and trout as well as a variety of Icelandic specialties, and lamb.

  • We suggest packing a variety of clothing layers for Iceland’s cold oceanic climate. For more helpful information please refer to our Packing Tips & Packing List.

  • Tipping at restaurants is appreciated but never expected. If you would like to reward good service it’s appropriate to round up your bill or leave up to 10 percent for excellent service.

At the end of your guided vacation, it’s customary to offer your motor coach driver and Travel Director a gratuity.  We recommend the equivalent of $4-5 per person/per day for your driver and $6-7 per person/per day for your Travel Director.  Recommended gratuity for a Local Host and Local Specialist is the equivalent of 1-2 dollars per person, paid at the conclusion of each guided visit.  A convenient option is to prepay your tips before your departure.

  • Baggage on our trips is restricted to one large suitcase per person with dimensions not exceeding 30x19x10 inches and a maximum weight of 50 pounds. You are also permitted one piece of hand luggage, which should be small enough to fit under your coach seat or on the small overhead shelf compartment. Please note that luggage with an adjustable handle and wheels will not fit in the overhead compartment of the coach. Hotel porterage is included in your vacation.

  • You will need to be comfortable on your feet, walking and standing for up to three hours in various weather conditions.  All of our vacations involve walking, often on cobblestone and uneven surfaces in historic city centers.  In order to get the most out of your vacation you need to be able to comfortably walk 1-3 miles unassisted in one day, be in good condition and be able to keep pace with the group.

If you need any medications, it is important that you bring enough to last you the whole trip and keep them in your carry-on bag while you travel.

  • We highly recommend our optional Travel Protection Plan, which allows you to cancel for any reason up to 24 hours before departure. The plan also includes trip interruption, baggage loss or delay, and medical and emergency assistance. Click here for a summary of coverage details, terms and conditions.
