Trip Itinerary
Willkommen in München – which you will have an opportunity to explore before embarking on your lyrical sojourn through the Sound of Music. Join your Travel Director and fellow travelers for a memorable Welcome Reception to kick-start your leisurely meander through Germany and Austria.
Embark on a morning orientation tour past some of the city's most renowned sites, See the distinctive towers of the Cathedral as well as Marienplatz, the central square and the impressive town hall with its charming glockenspiel during your orientation. The 13th-century. St. Peter’s church and the Viktualien food market square and a beerhall are only a short walk from here. Spend the rest of the day at leisure exploring the city's Old Town or consider an Optional Experience to the Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site, the first of the Nazi camps established in Germany. This evening, connect with the city's rich beer heritage and consider a memorable night out for a dinner of local specialties.
Journey to Neuschwanstein Castle, built as a retreat for shy King Ludwig II to retire from public life. Continue through Bavaria, stop in Oberammergau before arriving in Garmisch. Tonight you'll dine in your hotel.
The Nordkette mountains beckon today in this capital of Tyrol. We spend a leisurely day against a magnificent alpine backdrop, exploring the city's iconic sights. Admire Emperor Maximilian I's ornate Golden Roof, then maybe take a trip up the funicular for spectacular views, or see the Hofburg Palace. Marvel at the fascinating crystal installations and browse for precious gifts and souvenirs at the Swarovski Crystal Worlds Store.
Spend a soul-stirring morning connecting with the astounding natural beauty of Berchtesgaden. You'll want to take in all the spectacular views on an Optional Experience visit to Eagle's Nest, intended as a mountain retreat for Hitler and his inner circle. See the awe-inspiring mountain landscape and learn about the area's fascinating history before arriving in Salzburg, the birthplace of Mozart and the backdrop for the 'The Sound of Music.'
Join your Local Specialist for a tour of the city's iconic highlights including Getreidegasse, the Salzburg Cathedral, Mozart's birthplace and many of the locations used in the film ‘The Sound of Music'. This afternoon travel to Faistenau where we will Connect With Locals on a farm just outside Salzburg. The Klaushofer family and their resident bees are your hosts for an exclusive Be My Guest experience and family dinner with delicious home-made cheese strudel.
Leave the sounds of Salzburg behind for lakeside Mondsee, where you'll see Mondsee Abbey, the church of St. Michael that served as the church where Captain Von Trapp and Maria were married in 'The Sound of Music'. Gaze at the mountains and green fields as we leave the Salzkammergut region and journey eastward towards the regal Austrian capital, Vienna. There's no better introduction to the City of Music than a traditional dinner and local entertainment which you could enjoy as part of tonight's Optional Experience.
Enjoy an exclusive guided visit of the Habsburg royal collection of art at the Kunsthistorisches Museum, prior to admission of the general public. Dive Into Culture and visit the Kunstkammer during this private insider visit. Later, your Local Specialist will show you the city's major landmarks and palaces during your included sightseeing tour. The magic continues with a walking tour through the oldest parts of the city. This evening, join your fellow travelers for a Farewell Dinner.

The Dachau Memorial Site (Available on Day 2)Our Local Specialist will provide insight into Germany’s first concentration camp, opened immediately after Hitler’s rise to power, just outside Dachau. We'll learn about the camp, now maintained as a memorial, and the part it played in this tragic period in history.
Adult Price: €38 Bavarian Evening (Available on Day 2)A great evening dining in the local atmosphere of a typical Bavarian restaurant. Enjoy traditional Bavarian food and sample some of Munich’s best beer – Prost!
Adult Price: €81 Grand Alpine Tour (Available on Day 4)A scenic train ride through the Tyrolean Alps with our Local Specialist takes us to the glamorous ski-resort of Seefeld. Here we'll enjoy a horse drawn carriage ride through spectacular scenery and taste some of the local schnapps. Later, we see the Olympic Ski Jump and marvel at the landscape of the beautiful Inn Valley as it stretches below us.
Adult Price: €68 Eagle's Nest & The Bavarian Alps (Available on Day 5)In Berchtesgaden National Park, we'll drive with our Local Specialist past farmhouses and picturesque villages, as we ascend the Obersalzberg. We'll then transfer to special buses for the second leg of the journey, on a spectacular road that's been blasted out of the mountain side. Finally, we'll take an elevator to the Eagle's Nest, intended as a mountain retreat for Hitler and his inner circle. Once at the top, we'll learn its fascinating history and take in awe-inspiring views of the surrounding mountain peaks, whilst enjoying a local refreshment!
Adult Price: €75 Lake and Mountain Tour (Available on Day 5)Today, with our Local Specialist, we'll marvel at the Alpine beauty of the Salzburg lake district, with its 76 glacier lakes and picturesque towns like Sankt Gilgen. We'll also have the chance to see some of the major backdrops for the film "The Sound of Music".
Adult Price: €49 Dinner And Viennese Concert (Available on Day 7)A wonderful evening of all things Viennese! We'll enjoy a superb dinner with drinks, followed by a concert of Viennese classical music. With your 'A Class' tickets, you will experience works by Johann Strauss and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart performed in a classic, sumptuous setting and a complimentary glass of sparkling wine or juice during the concert. Please note: on occasion, a small gift will be offered in place of a glass of sparkling wine.
