Delhi

Morning Cycle Ride

A unique way of seeing Delhi, is to explore the city as it is waking up, by bicycle. Covering more distance than is possible on foot cycle through the narrow lanes of the old city and the colonial carriage ways of Lutyen’s Delhi, experiencing the city as it appears through the eyes of the local people.  Immerse yourself in the morning rhythms and patterns of the city waking up and coming alive, pass people on their morning walks, see vegetable and flower markets being set up and discover the true character of this city.

Mumbai

Bollywood Experience

Adult Price: $188

Ever since the first film was screened at the Watson Hotel in Mumbai in 1896, India’s motion picture industry (now known as Bollywood) has captivated millions of audiences. India now produces close to one thousand feature films every year -including films in Hindi and several regional languages besides documentaries, TV serials and commercials. Visit one of the Bollywood studios, see the artists and watch outdoor and indoor shootings in progress (subject to availability on the day of the visit). Afterwards take a drive around and pass by the houses of some well-known Bollywood celebrities.

Udaipur

Minature Paintings Art

Adult Price: $36

The Miniature Paintings of Udaipur symbolise Rajasthan in many ways – colourful, detailed and opulent. These paintings were popular in Mewar, Udaipur, and even in the Jaipur courts of royalty. The 16th Century painters would paint the intricate patterns onto a tiny canvas, and present them to Kings, to keep as memoirs of certain specific events. Nowadays the paintings are intended only for the decoration of interior spaces, rather than being documents of culture. They are made using a rigorous process which involves manufacture of the pigments and colours from scratch. Very often, these paintings reflect real life events and are portrayals of such events. Visit the house of an Artist to witness this special art form which takes a very long time to master.

  • U.S. citizens traveling to India must have a current passport that is valid for six months beyond the conclusion of their trip. You can find information on how to apply for a passport here, and how to renew a passport here. U.S. passport holders traveling to India will also need an entry visa.  We will send you application forms to complete to obtain your visa prior to departure. Visa costs and entry requirements can change at any time. Please visit travel.state.gov to learn more.

  • The currency in India is the Rupee.  The most convenient way to obtain cash is to use your ATM card at local banks in India. We recommend bringing a combination of credit and debit cards; it is important that you inform your financial institutions of your travel plans before you leave home so they don’t flag your purchases as fraudulent charges.

  • One of the most enjoyable parts of traveling is sampling the local cuisine. On your trip you’ll discover an abundance of regional dishes and local traditions.  Consumption of beef is considered taboo in India. Staples include lentils, rice, potatoes and flatbread served with spiced vegetables, sauces, and chutneys.

  • We suggest bringing breathable, loose-fitting clothing that can be layered to stay comfortable throughout your trip. Sturdy walking shoes are important for sightseeing excursions; a hat, lightweight jacket, and shawl or scarf could also come in handy. Keep in mind that your shoulders and legs should be covered at religious sites. For more helpful information please refer to our Packing Tips & Packing List.

  • It is appropriate to leave 5-10 percent gratuity at restaurants in India.  Restaurants in Dehli and Mumbai will sometimes include a service charge in the bill, in which case there is no need to leave an additional tip.

At the end of your guided vacation, it’s customary to offer your motor coach driver and Travel Director a gratuity.  We recommend the equivalent of $4 per person/per day for your driver and $6 per person/per day for your Travel Director.  Recommended gratuity for a Local Host and Local Specialist is the equivalent of 1-2 dollars per person, paid at the conclusion of each guided visit.  A convenient option is to prepay your tips before your departure.

  • Baggage on our trips is restricted to one large suitcase per person with dimensions not exceeding 30x19x10 inches and a maximum weight of 50 pounds. You are also permitted one piece of hand luggage, which should be small enough to fit under your coach seat or on the small overhead shelf compartment. Please note that luggage with an adjustable handle and wheels will not fit in the overhead compartment of the coach. Hotel porterage is included in your vacation.

  • You will need to be comfortable on your feet, walking and standing for up to three hours in various weather conditions.  All of our vacations involve walking, often on cobblestone and uneven surfaces in historic city centers.  In order to get the most out of your vacation you need to be able to comfortably walk 1-3 miles unassisted in one day, be in good condition and be able to keep pace with the group.

If you need any medications, it is important that you bring enough to last you the whole trip and keep them in your carry-on bag while you travel.

  • We highly recommend our optional Travel Protection Plan, which allows you to cancel for any reason up to 24 hours before departure. The plan also includes trip interruption, baggage loss or delay, and medical and emergency assistance. Click here for a summary of coverage details, terms and conditions.
