  2. On arrival at Warsaw Airport, your transfers depart for your hotel at 10:30, 12:30 & 15:30. Relax and settle in before joining your Tour Director for a warm, friendly Welcome Reception, an opportunity to mingle and get to know each other over a pleasant evening of dinner and wine.

(Relaxed Start) Sightseeing with a Local Expert from the Polish capital reveals just how well the city was restored after almost complete obliteration during World War II - largely due to the amazing detail in Canaletto's paintings! Pass the ‘wedding cake' Palace of Culture and stroll through Lazienki Park to the Chopin Memorial. Take some time to reflect at the Memorial of the Heroes of the Warsaw Ghetto. Finally, walk to the Market Square in the Old Town. The rest of the day is at leisure. Don't miss the Wilanow Palace, the residence of Polish King Sobieski - Victor of Vienna, or perhaps attend an exclusive private recital of Chopin music by a celebrated Polish pianist?

  4. Pass lakeside Augustów and Suwalki on a scenic drive through Masuria, a region richly endowed with lakes and vast forests. Cross into Lithuania and continue to the capital city of Vilnius.

  5. (Relaxed Start) Sightseeing with a Local Expert starts at the Baroque church of St. Peter and St. Paul before moving on to see the neo-classical cathedral. Join a Local Expert for a leisurely walk through the Old Town. See the Jesuit University, the Gates of Dawn and the former Soviet KGB headquarters, a reminder of grim and relatively recent events. Finally, enjoy a highlight visit to the fortified island castle of Trakai, originally built in the 13th century.

  6. Head north to visit the unusual ‘Votive Hill of Crosses' near Siauliai, the symbol of resistance against the Soviet occupation. Then it's on to the Latvian capital of Riga, a melange of Teutonic-inspired spires, stylish cocktail lounges and some of the world's most remarkable Art Nouveau architecture.

  7. Sightseeing of Riga's Old Town with a Local Expert includes a visit to the Domkirk, showing you the city walls. See the House of the Three Brothers as well as the Swedish Gate and the castle of the Livonian Knights. Then drive along the shores of the Gulf of Riga and cross the Estonian border to reach Tallinn, hailed by travel aficionados as the ‘New Prague'.

Service rating : The tour was our first organized tour of this type and it was wonderful. Every element was excellent including the bus, our tour leader, selected events as part of the tour and the organized extra events. Everything was on-time, went as expected, and was fun!

Service rating : I certainly would recommend GET again. Land tours have improved so much since thirty years ago. The coaches are comfortable, hotels very good with lavish breakfasts and helpful English speaking staff; the itinerary is more realistic allowing for leisure time and exploration on own Optional tours are still expensive. In Warsaw the Chopin concert was 45 minutes long, for $60, where there had been a free concert earlier in the day. I especially appreciated the knowledge and helpfulness of our tour guides and also the interesting history the local city guides provided. All in all one of my best tours yet.
Vacation : I'd have wished to move on from Warsaw earlier but only because I had toured Poland 25 years ago - good to see the growth. Estonia seems a little behind the other sister states but still worthwhile.

KGB Museum Visit

The former KGB headquarters are a grim reminder of the regime of terror that existed under Soviet occupation. A local expert takes you through the emphatically named Museum of Genocide Victims which recounts the Soviet years of political oppression and the partisan fight for independence. In the basement, reflect while in the cells used for the torture and imprisonment of dissidents right up until the late 1980's.
