Vacation
An acceptable vacation due to the extraordinary efforts of tour director Gary Junge. Without his superb efforts it would have been a total disaster. First, you book us on a flight that arrives in Amsterdam before dawn, charge a $130 transfer fee to get from the airport to assigned hotel, we arrive before 9:00 in a rain storm only to be told there are no rooms available until 3:00!!!! You can’t coordinate better than that!?!?! So we start the trip by sitting wet six hours in a hotel lobby? Great coordination? NOT!!!!!! Who had the bright idea to allow an elderly woman in an electric wheelchair on a tour where the bus isn’t accessible, most of the hotels aren’t accessible, most cities have rough cobblestone streets, and there are millions of stairs. It caused constant delays, detracted from our tour every day, and, by the end of the first week, caused great resentment. I didn’t pay for a premium vacation to help carry an elderly disabled stranger on and off the coach!!!! Totally unacceptable. In most cases, the food was substandard at best. The hotels, while big name hotels, were also poor, especially in Rome. Some of the optional experiences were very disappointing and expensive wastes of time. The tour essentially dumps you in the middle of a strange city if you don’t want the optional experiences. In reality, it was hard for them to be “optional.” Far too much seeing major sites from a distance instead of visiting them. We were only able to see Neuschwanstein from the rear. Really?? You couldn’t even get us a quick Look at the front much less a visit? Expensive gondola ride through a back alley and nothing more??? Murano Glass factory was just a sales pitch and shopping event. It wouldn’t take a lot to do better!! There is far too much dependence on WhatsApp. Internet access is sketchy at best and you need a better way. The fact that tour director Gary Junge went the extra mile daily is the only reason what was often a near “cluster ****” became an acceptable vacation. The Parisian local expert was excellent but the Italian ones were terrible and often annoying. By the time it was all said and done, with the optional experiences, this tour cost me and my partner over $20,000. It was worth half that at best. You need to work on it because it was the poorest of seven tours we’ve taken and it should have been the best. We’ll do Viking next time.

Kaiko was an excellent travel advisor. She absolutely loves her country. Her love for her Japan rubbed off. She was so knowledgeable about her beautiful country. I would recommend her to anyone that would love to visit Japan and get a deep appreciation her country. We even got to see Mt Fuji. What a majestic & epic view.

We talked to several different representatives as we were planning our trip. All were knowledgeable and provided excellent information. We also received several helpful reminder emails about getting our visas for both Australia and New Zealand.

It was truly a trip of a lifetime. We had so many amazing experiences it is hard to pick out just a few to rave about. Two personal favorites - our visit to Uluru to learn about aboriginal storying telling through dot painting and then making one of our own; our trip to Rotorua where we learned more about the Maori culture, music, dance, and haka. The geothermals and geysers were just spectacular. Our tour directors were truly outstanding. Nellie Sullivan was full of energy and kept us entertained all the time! She knew so many things about Australia - from history, to culture, flora, and fauna, geography - you name it! She was exceptionally attentive to our interests and needs, making us feel like the tour was tailored to us! One day we had a long layover at an airport - Nellie arranged for us to hang out at a hotel, provided a beautiful dinner, and showed us Dish (a fantastic movie about Australia's role in the first US moon landing). Nellie also went out of her way to give us traditional Australian snacks along the way including delicious vegemite/cheese crackers in the shape of Australia, TimTams, and Haight's chocolate! Marty Paranihi was equally amazing. His knowledge of New Zealand and Maori culture was encyclopedic. He freely shared about his Maori upbringing, and family practices. He, too, entertained us with interesting facts about history, geography, geology, animals, trees, plants, and flowers. He had a library of DVDs to entertain us on longer bus trips (his collection of funny TV commercials introduced us to Speights beer!) Marty made great recommendations for places to eat and pointed out many off-the-beaten path activities for us to explore when we had free time. We are still putting our pictures together and are reliving every moment as we do so. Nellie and Marty gave us a wonderful sense of the land and the people - we give them and the tour 10 stars!

First of all, we’ll start with the three dinners you gave us. They were disgusting. We go all the way to Spain and Portugal and get chicken cutlet that you couldn’t even cut with a steak knife past all millions of olive trees didn’t get one olive any of the dinners you gave us I went on Trafalga to Italy and it was entirely different. It was great. I would never recommend your tour company to anyone. The itinerary was not great. Most of the time was on the bus but I can’t complain. I read the itinerary before I left but the things we saw were very boring. We did not see the need to see the coach museum. We didn’t get much time in Portugal. The last hotel in Madrid was terrible. I will say Maria our tour director was wonderful. She did a great job and we all liked her. The bus driver did a great job driving the bus, but liked personality. It started off, arriving at the airport with no one greeting us and we had to walk all through the airport asking questions trying to figure out where to meet the tour director then we had to walk a mile to our bus then we’ll get to the hotel. We had to wait online to check in ourselves. No one was there to greet us. This was very disturbing to all of us. We thought we were booking with Trafalga. We end up with insight never heard of it. The whole thing was just terrible. I will never recommend it or go one of your tour again.

Service
Everything was great until when I called with a question about luggage requirements on Italian trains. The answer could have that the women I was talking to just didn't know, which I could accept. But the tone of her voice, in my opinion, was rude and unacceptable. Other than that every other phone call was handled with real professionalism and good customer service.

We are so sorry that we ever chose this trip. The transfer from the airport was very difficult to find. No one at the hotel to greet us. Our room was not ready. Then when it was ready we had to bring our luggage up ourselves. Most of our time was spent on the bus. We hardly saw any of Portugal. The one day we paid for the extra excursion to Cascais was hardly worth it. We had about an hour and a half there. Definitely needed more time. The coach museum and the Queluz palace in the afternoon were totally not worth our time. The meals that were included were terrible. Our first night in Madrid we were taken to a restaurant called Edelweiss. Chicken cutlets, a nice authentic Spanish meal would have been nice. Avila was not worth mentioning at all. We have traveled in the past to Europe with Trafalgar and GET. The experiences were wonderful. I had no idea this was an Insight Tour. I never heard of them. After this experience I never plan on going on another tour. It cured me. There was alot of walking and no accomodations for people that have mobility difficulties. The bus driver did a good job and Maria the guide was very nice. Overall a disappointment.

We saw so much of the country. Some of the cities were not on my radar, but if I can, I will come back to see more, particularly Seville and Valencia. I appreciated the periodic stops that we made during the longer travel days. Everything was very well organized. We never waited more than a few minutes for our tours to start.
