When I made the reservation the travel agent was very abrupt and when I had questions I could never get her back on the phone. Other agents answered my questions. This was irritating and frustrating.
Response from Grand European Travel:
We're sorry your initially agent was not as helpful as you had hoped. We pride ourselves on customer service and it sounds like we fell short when it came to your booking experience. We are happy to see that you enjoyed the Christmas Markets and hope some happy memories were made.

Our tour director, Gary Junge was excellent. Our driver Tommy was also excellent. It was not uneasy job herding 40 people around. We saw many places and did a lot of touring. The hotels were not first class but low level Marriotts. The dinner the first night was inedible and did not give a good impression of the tone of the trip. In the Welcome Letter it was stated that a Taxi from Munich airport to the hotel would be about 70 euros and it was 124 euros. There were too many "optional experiences" with added costs. Also tipping the guides at each place we went was never mentioned upfront.

We got to see 8-9 Christmas markets plus lots of beautiful scenery. The trip organization was great and our trip director was knowledgeable about the various locations. Our driver was amazing. Most of the dinners, included and the extra ones we paid additional for, were not good. Only two, the one at Swarovski and in Zurich were good. Other meals seemed thrown together or were salty, greasy and basic, definitely not worth the money paid. Most meals were pre-set as far as what you got unless you were gluten free. There was not much free time and the expectation was that we attend all activities with the group, including evening dinners which started and ended late. Most mornings we had to have our bags out early and we left relatively early from eating and being out late. There wasn't much consideration that upon arriving we were jet lagged and most had been up well over 24 hours. These types of trips are great if you want to see a lot and cover a lot of ground and countries. If you want a relaxing and recharging vacation, choose something else.
Response from Grand European Travel:
This is a very paced trip with quite a lot to see and some late night meals. We will share your observations with the tour operator for review. We are glad that overall you enjoyed yourself and appreciate your honest feedback.

The itinerary was fine and the tour director was great. However, our flights, which were booked by GET, were unpleasant because we did not receive the seats we had been assured of for the long transatlantic flights. We were squeezed into the center section both times. Also, the local guides were in too much of a hurry. They raced through their tours and made no attempt to keep track of the group.

We’ve decided that we’ll not be doing tours any longer. This was our 17th European trip but the misery of air travel has caused us to decide that we’ll not do this again. Crowded planes, impossibly cramped sears, luggage delays. Just not worth getting there.
Response from Grand European Travel:
We are sorry to hear about your trouble with your flights and seat requests. We do relay your preference to the airline, but ultimately all seating on the plane is under their control and can change if they happen to use a different aircraft for your flight or the flight is oversold. This is the airline policy no matter where you actually purchase your tickets through. We do hope that there were some good memories made once you arrived.

It was my first time on a coach tour so I wasn't quite sure what to expect. The coach was nice and clean and fairly comfortable. The hotels were nice for the most part. Passing through the countryside was quite lovely. Our guide was friendly and quite knowledgeable.
Response from Grand European Travel:
We are so happy to see that you enjoyed your first guided vacation. We hope it's the first of many adventures to come, and we hope to be able to help you plan your next trip!

Service
Overall good trip but two issues: Frustrated at logistics for airport pickup as we were faced with 2 1/2 hour wait at Munich airport or E70 taxi to hotel. Perhaps better pickup times to avoid expensive cab ride would be in order. Hotel in Villengen-Schwenninge was "quaint" but really out of the way and too much bus time back and forth to Strasbourg/Colmar.
Vacation
Would have liked more time at the markets; often felt too rushed to shop and to also find quick place to grab lunch before due back at the bus.

Left at the Airport again! Contacted Airport Info sites(3), stopped people that looked like they could help. Not one person could not understand the directions that Insight provided. Being ditched before by GET (at Paris airport) we got a taxi to the hotel, the fare was 61 dollars. Just the tip of the iceberg. Goodbye GET.
Response from Grand European Travel:
We're sorry to hear about your experience arriving in Munich. The scheduled transfer times to the hotel are 10am and 12pm. It appears your flight arrived too late to make the 10am transfer, so there would be a bit of a wait until the next departure. We do apologize if this procedure was not made clear to you and we will be happy the reimburse the cost of your taxi. Our Guest Relations department will be in touch with you shortly. The tour sites were excellent, the hotels were excellent and the tour guide and driver were exceptional. I could not have asked for more.

Overall we saw a lot in the amount of time we had and all of it enjoyable. I personally did not care for Munich and wished it had not been on the tour. I much preferred seeing the smaller towns where there was a greater sense of history and culture.
