Service rating : It was not Grand European, but Trafalgar. My very first trip was with GET and it was magical. I couldn't have been more happy. My second and third trips for some reason were pushed over to Insight Vacations. I didn't understand that. Now it is Trafalgar. The tour leader, Ananda, and driver Peter, were super. Have no complaints whatsoever about their services. But Trafalgar trip was definitely not leisurely as stated. Too much walking over cobblestones for older folks, long walks, and there were too many people. Someone said it felt like a herd. The motor coach was not as comfortable as others have been. On my next trip I will make sure I am traveling under the GET umbrella. If not, I won't go.
Vacation : Chocolate, chocolate, chocolate! Lots of souvenirs from Delft and a sweater from C&A at a very good price.

Service rating : They answered my questions, gave me good info and worked hard to make sure I had all the information I needed to make the trip all I wanted it to be.
Vacation : We had varied experiences that met our expectations and provided us with many fun, learning opportunities. Sometimes the physical requirements were not well explained and there were participants for whom they were too difficult.
Service rating : When the original tour that we signed up for was cancelled, we were pleased with how they worked with us to schedule a different tour and to arrange our transportation to include a pre-tour visit to Vienna.
Vacation : We were pleased with the itinerary. Some of the optional items were truly optional such as a horse and carriage tour in Bruges. But mostly they were integral to the rest of the tour and should have been included in a higher package price; if you didn't want to do them you had to wait in the bus.
Service rating : Sub-contracting tours to other travel agencies (Trafalgar, Insights, etc.) has had a profound impact on services provided. We have taken 4 tours with Grand European, 2 with GET Directors, 1 with Insight, and 1 with Trafalgar. The first two were fantastic, however the final two through subcontractors left us feeling somewhat neglected throughout the tour. On the UK tour that we took in 2016, with Insight, I had a medical problem, which the Insight travel director gave me very little assistance with. I had to seek attention on my own, from Emergency room facilities in both London and Dublin. We spent 6 hours waiting to see a doctor in London, who did nothing, and ten hours in Dublin, and never saw a doctor, only a physician assistant. We missed an optional experience in Dublin as a result. On our most recent tour with Trafalgar, the Travel Director showed very little experience of the areas we were visiting (Best of Holland, Belgium & Luxembourg). She seemed more concerned with accomplishing her administrative duties, i.e. taking sign-ups and collecting payments for optional experiences, while traveling on the coach, rather than explaining the countryside and towns that we were seeing out the window. When we traveled with Grand European, and their travel directors, these administrative functions were all handled at one of our hotel locations. We honestly feel that the services provided by GET through sub-contracting,have been degraded. All others areas of GET, have been exceptional for us, and we would like to continue our travels with you. It has been a very rewarding four years that we have had with GET, and hope to continue our travels in the future.
Vacation : Areas visited were beautiful, and we really enjoyed all of our experiences. As mentioned earlier, minor glitches with tour director had an adverse impact on our overall ability to obtain all information on various sites visited.
Service rating : excellent experience booking the trip; guide and bus driver, as well as individual guides on local sites were friendly, knowledgable and in tune with the group
Vacation : While the optionals were for the most part enjoyable and inforational, I thought some were a little high priced
  • U.S. citizens traveling to the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg must have a current passport valid for six months beyond the conclusion of their trip. You can find information on how to apply for a passport here, and how to renew a passport here. No visa is required for U.S. citizens entering these countries.

  • The currency in the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg is the Euro (€). While it’s a good idea to bring some money for when you first arrive in Europe, you’ll usually find a better exchange rate in your destination.  The most convenient way to obtain cash is to use your ATM card at local banks. We recommend you also bring a valid credit card for purchases while you are traveling.  It is important that you inform your financial institutions of your travel plans before you leave home so they don’t flag your purchases as potentially fraudulent charges.

  • Dutch cuisine is simple and rustic.  You might like to try specialties such as rookworst (smoked sausage), kibbeling (fried fish) and pannenkoeken (Dutch pancakes).  And, if you’re feeling adventurous you can try local raw herring prepared with onions and gherkins.  For something sweet, try stroopwafels, a delicious chewy cookie made with two thin layers of waffle and sticky syrup filling.

Belgian food is saucy, rich, and satisfying. Try popular dishes like waterzooi (fish stew), boudin blanc sausage, stoemp (Belgian mashed potatoes), moules-frites, and waffles.

If you enjoy large portions of meat and fish, potatoes, dashes of cream and wine, you’ll love the food in Luxembourg. Hearty options include pork and broad beans, fried blood sausage, pates and soups.

  • We suggest bringing a variety of lightweight clothing items that can be layered to save space in your suitcase and give you more options for how to dress, as well as comfortable walking shoes and a waterproof jacket with a hood.  For more helpful information please refer to our Packing Tips & Packing List.

  • Tipping is less common in Europe than in the U.S. Many restaurants will include a service charge in the bill. While tipping it is not required, you can leave up to 10 percent gratuity for excellent service. In bars and cafes it’s appropriate to round up or leave some small change.

At the end of your guided vacation, it’s customary to offer your motor coach driver and Travel Director a gratuity.  We recommend €3.00 per person/per day for your driver and €5.00 per person/per day for your Travel Director.  Recommended gratuity for a Local Host and Local Specialist is 1-2 euros per person, paid at the conclusion of each guided visit.  A convenient option is to prepay your tips before your departure.

  • Baggage on our trips is restricted to one large suitcase per person with dimensions not exceeding 30x19x10 inches and a maximum weight of 50 pounds. You are also permitted one piece of hand luggage, which should be small enough to fit under your coach seat or on the small overhead shelf compartment. Please note that luggage with an adjustable handle and wheels will not fit in the overhead compartment of the coach. Hotel porterage is included in your vacation.

  • You will need to be comfortable on your feet, walking and standing for up to three hours in various weather conditions.  All of our vacations involve walking, often on cobblestone and uneven surfaces in historic city centers.  In order to get the most out of your vacation you need to be able to comfortably walk 1-3 miles unassisted in one day, be in good condition and be able to keep pace with the group.

If you need any medications, it is important that you bring enough to last you the whole trip and keep them in your carry-on bag while you travel.

  • We highly recommend our optional Travel Protection Plan, which allows you to cancel for any reason up to 24 hours before departure. The plan also includes trip interruption, baggage loss or delay, and medical and emergency assistance. Click here for a summary of coverage details, terms and conditions.

Optional Experiences are subject to change and seasonal availability. Your Travel Director will supply you with a final list of Optional Experiences available on your trip, and pricing. Optional Experiences cannot be booked online; they can only be purchased during your trip through your Travel Director.
