Travel to Europe often requires an overnight flight. Please arrange for flights to arrive on or before Day 1.

  1. Tread in the footsteps of James Joyce and Oscar Wilde, through the lyrical streets of Dublin—your launch pad to a memorable encounter with Ireland's iconic highlights. On arrival at Dublin Airport transfers will operate at 8:30 am, 11 am and 1 pm. Guests arriving later should make their own way to the hotel. After a leisurely morning, meet a Local Specialist for a sightseeing tour with views of Trinity College, St. Patrick's Cathedral and the stately Georgian Squares. Indulge in a little Irish craic this evening, joining your Travel Director and fellow travelers for a Welcome Reception.

    meal(s):Welcome Reception
    hotel:Maldron Parnell Square
  2. We journey to Galway, the City of Tribes, where we'll see its stone cathedral on the banks of the Corrib and spend some free time exploring its colorful façades. Irish traditions and heritage are explored next, during a visit to Bunratty Castle and its Folk Park, a living history museum that reveals insights into life in Ireland during the 18th and 19th centuries. Be sure to drop into Mac's for a pint and meet the Bean an Tí and try to spot a fairy. Then, it's on to Limerick, our home for the night. Spend a free evening enjoying the world-renowned hospitality of the Irish.

    meal(s):Full Breakfast
    hotel:Greenhills/Castle Oaks
  3. This morning view the 13th-century King John's Castle overlooking the Shannon, St. Mary's Cathedral and the Treaty Stone during your orientation in Limerick. Our first stop is the spectacular Cliffs of Moher where we will learn about their history during a visit to the ‘Atlantic Edge' exhibition. After a picturesque coastal drive through the villages of Lahinch and Kilrush, we take the ferry across the Shannon estuary. Our home for the next two nights is the colorful little town of Killarney.

    meal(s):Full Breakfast
    hotel:International/Innisfallen
  4. Circle the spectacular Ring of Kerry—its emerald green hills, centuries-old stone villages and vivid blue seascapes provide a soul-stirring backdrop for our leisurely drive around a beautiful coastline that has inspired writers and poets for centuries. We'll see Daniel O'Connell's Cahirciveen, the fishing village of Waterville, Moll's Gap and the Black Valley, renowned for being the last place in Ireland without electricity and telephone networks.

    meal(s):Full Breakfast
  5. Cross the rugged Kerry Mountains and travel to Blarney Castle to kiss the stone and acquire the 'gift of the gab.' En route to Waterford, we stop in the historic seaport town of Youghal, once home to Sir Walter Raleigh. This evening we dine in our hotel.

    meal(s):Full Breakfast, Dinner
    hotel:Fitzwilton
  6. Dive into culture and witness the centuries-old tradition of crafting fine glass at the House of Waterford Crystal. Here we will watch the talented master craftsmen in their workshop creating exquisite pieces. Our next stop is in the town of New Ross, where we'll see the monument to John F. Kennedy who traveled to his ancestral family hometown in 1963. We'll visit the three-masted famine ship Dunbrody and dive into culture yet again, gaining insights into the tragic plight of the Irish emigrants who fled the potato famine during the 1800s. Continuing through County Wexford and the lush countryside of County Wicklow, we journey to Dublin stopping en route at Glenealy Farmhouse, where we'll connect with locals over a Be My Guest dinner and meet the Fulvio family.

    meal(s):Full Breakfast, Farewell Dinner
    hotel:Clayton Dublin Airport/Clayton Leopardstown
  7. For now, it's time to say a fond slán abhaile to your fellow travelers as you close the curtain on an unforgettable journey through the Emerald Isle. Return transfers will arrive at Dublin Airport at 7 am, 9 am and 11 am. Conditions apply.

    meal(s):Full Breakfast

Service rating : Our Tour Director was a very poor planner. Starting with day 1 when we arrived in Dublin there was a Marathon and she did not have any alternative plans for our tour of the city in which most of the streets were blocked. Instead we drove out of the city and had a real estate tour of the outskirts. Spent lots of time at the cliffs and took us to a town for lunch where most of the restaurants were closed or had few tables, gave us an hour to grab lunch and then had to take a ferry. Also her directions were poorly stated and her timing was off.
Response from Grand European Travel:
Thank you for bringing these issues to our attention. We are sorry to hear about the lack of planning on behalf of your Travel Director. We will certainly share this information with our main office in London. We hope that there were some good memories made along the way.

Service rating : This was our first time using Grand European Travel and we had the most amazing time in Ireland!! Lauren our travel agent described the trip perfectly when I first talked to her and was very patient with me as I asked so many questions. The trip itself was narrated by Bernard and nothing was left out discribing the way of life, regions visited and so on. The trip was kept on schedule the entire time which made planning what to see and do during free times. We plan on using GET a lot in the future based on our experience. Sincerely Gary and Lynne.
Vacation : So much at an incredible value. It was actually less than traveling from Wisconsin to San Francisco California for the same amount of time!!! Why would anyone not go!!

Service rating : When we arrived at the Dublin airport we looked for the meeting hall at terminal 2. We found the area noted meeting and sat and waiting for our contact for the 11am group. When no one came and there were no others from GET there we contacted a person waiting for another group. The lady was very nice and asked some ladies who said they were the one. When I tried to talk with them they were very confused and asked me to wait while they checked several lists. I asked if we were in the right place she said yes and I let her know we would be sitting over in the meeting area. We looked up she was over at the exit door with a large group of people. We decided we better join them, got her attend and she could not find our name on any of the list she had. She later found our name and rushed us off to join a group leaving down the hallway. After a long flight from the USA, sitting for some time, and almost being left at the airport, we had to take our suitcases and walk from terminal 2 a very long way to a bus to be transported to our hotel. This was my daughter’s first trip to Europe and I wanted it be something to remember. I think she will remember the beginning, but not the way I wanted her to. There was just too much confusion and disorganization at the airport. There were three ladies with several lists that they were comparing and updating there at the airport. My last trip was completely different, there was a designated area were we gather, the travel director greed us at the time specified, she led us to the exit door to a waiting bus where your luggage was loaded and the tour began. At Dublin our travel director was not available until later and we could not check into the hotel when we arrived. We had to sit around the hotel waiting to check in while other directors tried to assist us. The tour was great and director was very knowledgeable and very helpful after she arrived from another tour. We were extremely impressed with Hugo the driver a true gentleman. I will book at least another trip but would tell others of my Dublin experience. I believe in giving a second chances but not a third one.
Response from Grand European Travel:
We are sorry to hear about the confusion at the Dublin airport. While every trip, destination and airport is unique, we do try to provide as much information as possible to ensure a stress free pick up. We are glad that you enjoyed beautiful Ireland despite the rocky start.

Service rating : Questions at the beginning, and throughout the booking process, were answered quickly. We had the perfect #trafalgar tour guide with Anne Good at the helm and an awesome driver, Steve. Anne's knowledge of Ireland and its' history showed us the love she has of her country. She was also instrumental in helping me with a number of personal issues that came up during the tour.

Service rating : The trip was rather poor. I have taken 14 tours in Europe and South America ( and led some small tours myself) and was so disappointed with this trip. I have even taught high school for 33 years The main problem was with our courier Bernard Creeegan. He talked non-stop for 7 days with us trapped on the bus. He often repeated stories, jokes and stupid commits. I was also greatly disappointed that we were stuck on the bus most of the trip. There were very few stops and he just left us there on our own. He seldom guided us to sights, restaurants or pubs. He would just abandon us at the hotel in the afternoon. .And why did we have to take a 20 minute ferry boat ride (on the bus) on nowhere? He would drop us off in a town ,stay be the bus and didn't take us around even with the short free time he gave us And we fly through Dublin. I had really looked forward to seeing some of this great city on foot. I would believe the trip would have been much better and more exciting with that fool.Holy smoke (his favorite expression every ten minutes!) I was disappointed in Trafalgar This was my fourth trip with you: the other three were quite good Hopefully you do something about this experience and maybe for me. Sincerely yours,, Ron Hartemann

  • U.S. citizens traveling to Ireland must have a current passport that is valid for six months beyond the conclusion of their trip. You can find information on how to apply for a passport here, and how to renew a passport here. No visa is required for U.S. citizens entering Ireland.

  • The currency in the Republic of Ireland is the Euro (€) and in Northern Ireland is the Pound (£). While it’s a good idea to bring some money with you, you’ll usually find a better exchange rate when you arrive at your destination.  The most convenient way to obtain cash is to use your ATM card at local banks in Ireland. We recommend you also bring a valid credit card for purchases while you are traveling.  It is important that you inform your financial institutions of your travel plans before you leave home so they don’t flag your purchases as potentially fraudulent charges.

  • One of the most enjoyable parts of traveling is sampling the local cuisine.  Culinary experiences to try include a full Irish breakfast, a visit to a chip shop, and hearty lunch at a good local pub.  And be sure to sample Irish national specialties including Irish stew, coddle, potato bread, corned beef and whiskey cake.

Ireland is famous for its stout and beer, the most famous being Guinness. Other popular brands include Murphy’s Irish Stout, Beamish, and Kilkenny beer. Whiskey is also renowned with the most famous distilleries being the Old Midleton Distillery in Cork, the Old Jameson Distillery in Dublin, and the Bushmills Distillery in Antrim.

  • The weather in Ireland is mild, moist, and quickly changeable. We suggest packing a variety of lightweight clothing items that can be layered to save space in your suitcase and give you more options for how to dress. Important items to bring include sturdy walking shoes and a waterproof jacket with a hood. For more helpful information please refer to our Packing Tips & Packing List.

  • Tipping in Ireland is less common than in the U.S. When dining in a restaurant, it’s appropriate, although not required, to leave a tip of up to 5-10 percent.  Leave your gratuity on the table rather than adding it to your credit card receipt to ensure that your waiter receives it.

At the end of your guided vacation, it’s customary to offer your motor coach driver and Travel Director a gratuity. We recommend €3.00 per person/per day for your driver and €5.00 per person/per day for your Travel Director.  Recommended gratuity for a Local Host and Local Specialist is 1-2 euros per person, paid at the conclusion of each guided visit.  A convenient option is to prepay your tips before your departure.

  • Baggage on our trips is restricted to one large suitcase per person with dimensions not exceeding 30x19x10 inches and a maximum weight of 50 pounds. You are also permitted one piece of hand luggage, which should be small enough to fit under your coach seat or on the small overhead shelf compartment. Please note that luggage with an adjustable handle and wheels will not fit in the overhead compartment of the coach. Hotel porterage is included in your vacation.

  • You will need to be comfortable on your feet, walking and standing for up to three hours in various weather conditions.  All of our vacations involve walking, often on cobblestone and uneven surfaces in historic city centers.  In order to get the most out of your vacation you need to be able to comfortably walk 1-3 miles unassisted in one day, be in good condition and be able to keep pace with the group.

If you need any medications, it is important that you bring enough to last you the whole trip and keep them in your carry-on bag while you travel.

  • We highly recommend our optional Travel Protection Plan, which allows you to cancel for any reason up to 24 hours before departure. The plan also includes trip interruption, baggage loss or delay, and medical and emergency assistance. Click here for a summary of coverage details, terms and conditions.
