Prague Vienna and Budapest
Service rating : We loved lots of things, but were very disappointed tha two of our travel days were holidays where everything was shut down. What you offered were your extra excursions. Two days is a big part of a ten day trip that includes lots of traveling time. We also felt the pitch on excursions was way too much. Once okay, over and over, not so okay. Finally we were disappointed to be so far from a Vienna, since one day here was one of the holidays. If it weren’t for these things we would have given the trip a higher rating.
Vacation : For the price we paid we anticipated more! Disappointed to not know travel was Trafalger. Very unhappy with outgoing flights. We paid extra to in an airline of choice and still had no status.

Service rating : Only comments: STOP allowing children below teens to accompany adults. And choose hotels even more central in cities, even if they lack some luxuries and amenities.
Vacation : Good guides, most of the important sites, good food.
Sunday, July 9, 2017
Service rating : The tour director and the driver did an excellent job
Vacation : It is because of the Tour Director and Driver. However instead of providing too much options include them with standard tours. Spme pf the tours were hurried thru instead of giving enough time to see palaces and meseums

Service rating : What was included in the tour and in optional tours was well chosen, but the food provided for vegetarians was not acceptable. I did not choose any optional tour which provided food for that reason. Both the first dinner, and last dinner provided were not good. I feel that since I pay the same as any "carnivores" that good vegetarian food should be provided. I can order such in restaurants myself, so why can't the restaurants you choose learn how to make decent food for vegetarians??
Response from Grand European Travel:
Thanks for the feedback.  Vegetarian options are improving in Europe but can still be somewhat of a challenge in certain areas, particularly Eastern Europe.  We will continue to strive for improvement in this area.

Vacation : Purchase of what; I don't know what you want.
Tuesday, May 23, 2017
Service rating : When I booked this trip, Dave Frontella was very helpful in 'filling in the blanks' that I always seem to find when doing things on line. I did not know, however, that the trip was actually a Trafalgar trip, since Grand European and Trafalgar are now "under the same umbrella." At first I was disappointed, having had great trips several times with Grand European and not such a good experience with one of the Trafalgar trips I had made. However, Colette, the tour guide, convinced me that everyone has stepped up their game; she was excellent! The bus was brand new and comfortable (except that they need to add foot rests for some of us vertically challenged); the local guides were of the same excellent quality I have had on previous trips. The price was a great deal, since I was able to plan and pay several months in advance, and take advantage of my AARP membership and my previous travel with GET. Overall, it was a great trip with lots of help from both GET and Trafalgar personnel.
Response from Grand European Travel:
We are very proud to offer both Trafalgar and Insight Vacations trips to our past GET guests.  They both do a fabulous job and we're so happy that you had a chance to see that first hand. Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback.

Vacation : I was able to take advantage of early pricing for online booking, my AARP membership, my previous tours with GET. I could not have done this trip on my own; the GET pricing and even the prices of the optional events were very reasonable.
  • U.S. citizens traveling to the Czech Republic, Austria and Hungary must have a current passport that is valid for six months beyond the conclusion of their trip. You can find information on how to apply for a passport here, and how to renew a passport here. No visa is required for U.S. citizens entering these countries.

  • The currency in the Czech Republic is the Koruna, in Austria is the Euro, and in Hungary is the Forint. While it’s a good idea to bring some money for when you first arrive on your trip, you’ll usually find a better exchange rate in your destination.  The most convenient way to obtain cash is to use your ATM card at local banks in the Czech Republic, Austria and Hungary. We recommend you also bring a valid credit card for purchases while you are traveling.  It is important that you inform your financial institutions of your travel plans before you leave home so they don’t flag your purchases as potentially fraudulent charges.

  • If you like meat and potatoes, chances are you’ll love the food in the Czech Republic.  The country is also known for its long-standing tradition for beer.  Most towns have at least one brewery, so it’s no surprise that the Czech consume more beer per capita than any other country.  In Austria you’ll find more hearty cuisine, but nothing beats the desserts. Try delicious treats like Viennese Sachertorte (dense chocolate cake) and apple strudel. In Hungary you’ll find hearty specialties including goulash, winter salami, pork stew, and chicken paprikash.

  • We suggest packing a variety of lightweight clothing items that can be layered to save space in your suitcase and give you more options for how to dress. It’s important to bring comfortable walking shoes and a waterproof jacket. For more helpful information please refer to our Packing Tips & Packing List.

  • When dining out it’s appropriate to leave up to 10 percent gratuity for good service at restaurants.

At the end of your guided vacation, it’s customary to offer your motor coach driver and Travel Director a gratuity.  We recommend €3.00 per person/per day for your driver and €5.00 per person/per day for your Travel Director.  Recommended gratuity for a Local Host and Local Specialist is 1-2 euros per person, paid at the conclusion of each guided visit.  A convenient option is to prepay your tips before your departure.

  • Baggage on our trips is restricted to one large suitcase per person with dimensions not exceeding 30x19x10 inches and a maximum weight of 50 pounds. You are also permitted one piece of hand luggage, which should be small enough to fit under your coach seat or on the small overhead shelf compartment. Please note that luggage with an adjustable handle and wheels will not fit in the overhead compartment of the coach. Hotel porterage is included in your vacation.

  • You will need to be comfortable on your feet, walking and standing for up to three hours in various weather conditions.  All of our vacations involve walking, often on cobblestone and uneven surfaces in historic city centers.  In order to get the most out of your vacation you need to be able to comfortably walk 1-3 miles unassisted in one day, be in good condition and be able to keep pace with the group.

If you need any medications, it is important that you bring enough to last you the whole trip and keep them in your carry-on bag while you travel.

  • We highly recommend our optional Travel Protection Plan, which allows you to cancel for any reason up to 24 hours before departure. The plan also includes trip interruption, baggage loss or delay, and medical and emergency assistance. Click here for a summary of coverage details, terms and conditions.
