Autumn, winter and spring are all great seasons to experience Iceland's world of natural phenomena; by day marvel at waterfalls, volcanoes and stunning landscapes and by night, seek out the dancing lights that fill cloudless skies.
Board your overnight flight to Europe (please ask about our great deals).
Welcome to Iceland. At Reykjavik's Keflavik Airport, transfers depart for the tour hotel at 8:00 am, 12:30 pm and 4:30 pm. Later, join your Tour Director for a Welcome Reception and an opportunity to get to know each other over a pleasant evening of dinner and wine. Afterwards, search for the most spectacular show on earth - the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis). See the breathtaking night sky, filled with an array of different colors. Please note: The Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon and sightings, therefore, cannot be guaranteed.
Take a journey through the stunning landscape of Iceland‘s south coast to visit its newest geothermal heat and electric power station at Hellisheiðavirkjun. Continue on to witness the majesty of Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss waterfalls. Stand awestruck by their beauty and the powerful force. After seeing the magnificent Hekla and Eyjafjallajökull volcanoes, arrive in the welcoming community of Vík. Perhaps enjoy another chance to go in search of the mystical Northern Lights?
Embark on a day of discovery around Iceland's Golden Circle, taking in some of the famous landmarks this magical country has to offer. Experience the exploding hot springs at Geysir and the mighty Gullfoss Waterfalls – the Icelandic equivalent of Niagara Falls. Next stop is Fridheimar, to find out about the processes in Icelandic greenhouse horticulture. Visit a family-run vegetable farm that specializes in tomatoes. Tour their greenhouses and sample the sweet, unique flavor of their lovingly-grown crop. Continue to your hotel in Flúdir, where there is again a chance to look to the night sky to watch nature's theater unfold.
Travel southwards, stopping in Fontana to visit a fascinating Geothermal bakery. Sample the delicious rye bread, dug hot from the ground and served with butter. Continue on to Thingvellir, where the first meeting of the Icelandic parliament was held in 930AD. This remarkable natural site lies on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge line, where the American and European tectonic plates meet. Continue on the trail of Viking warrior and poet Egill Skallagrimsson to Borgarnes. En route, stop at the pretty village of Reykholt, home of poet and medieval scholar Snorri Sturluson. On arrival in Borgarnes, learn about Iceland's history with a visit to the fascinating Icelandic Settlement Center. Journey on through glorious landscapes taking in views of the Hraunfossar and Barnafoss waterfalls and Deildartunguhver - Europe's most powerful hot spring.
Journey back to Reykjavik, where sightseeing shows you the old town center, the 19th century parliament building, Hofdi House (the location of the 1986 Reykjavik Summit meeting of presidents Ronald Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev), the colorful harbor and the modern, landmark church, the Hallgrimskirkja. The afternoon is at leisure.
Relax and enjoy your final day with a visit to Reykjavik's Blue Lagoon. Surrounded by lava fields and snow-capped mountains, the Lagoon is a wonder of nature and offers a unique experience for both body and soul. Choose to bathe in the pleasantly warm mineral-rich geothermal waters, or perhaps enjoy a water massage or spa treatment? Facilities also include an indoor geothermal pool, a winter garden and restaurants. With your newfound friends, toast the culmination of your fascinating journey of discovery with a celebratory cocktail. The rest of the day is free, perhaps spend time relaxing in a sidewalk cafe.
Your Icelandic adventure comes to an end, with transfers arriving at Reykjavik's Keflavik Airport at 5:00 am and 12:30 pm.

The currency in Iceland is the Krona. While it’s a good idea to bring some money for when you first arrive in Iceland, you can use your debit or credit card to pay in most places and you’ll likely find a better exchange rate in your destination. The most convenient way to obtain cash is to use your ATM card at local banks in Iceland. We recommend you also bring a valid credit card for purchases while you are traveling. It is important that you inform your financial institutions of your travel plans before you leave home so they don’t flag your purchases as potentially fraudulent charges.
Icelandic cuisine offers an abundance of fresh seafood. Enjoy dishes prepared with fresh herring, salmon, and trout as well as a variety of Icelandic specialties, and lamb.
Tipping at restaurants is appreciated but never expected. If you would like to reward good service it’s appropriate to round up your bill or leave up to 10 percent for excellent service.
At the end of your guided vacation, it’s customary to offer your motor coach driver and Travel Director a gratuity. We recommend the equivalent of $4-5 per person/per day for your driver and $6-7 per person/per day for your Travel Director. Recommended gratuity for a Local Host and Local Specialist is the equivalent of 1-2 dollars per person, paid at the conclusion of each guided visit. A convenient option is to prepay your tips before your departure.
Baggage on our trips is restricted to one large suitcase per person with dimensions not exceeding 30x19x10 inches and a maximum weight of 50 pounds. You are also permitted one piece of hand luggage, which should be small enough to fit under your coach seat or on the small overhead shelf compartment. Please note that luggage with an adjustable handle and wheels will not fit in the overhead compartment of the coach. Hotel porterage is included in your vacation.
You will need to be comfortable on your feet, walking and standing for up to three hours in various weather conditions. All of our vacations involve walking, often on cobblestone and uneven surfaces in historic city centers. In order to get the most out of your vacation you need to be able to comfortably walk 1-3 miles unassisted in one day, be in good condition and be able to keep pace with the group.
If you need any medications, it is important that you bring enough to last you the whole trip and keep them in your carry-on bag while you travel.
We highly recommend our optional Travel Protection Plan, which allows you to cancel for any reason up to 48 hours before departure. The plan also includes trip interruption, baggage loss or delay, and medical and emergency assistance. Click here for a summary of coverage details, terms and conditions.
