Service rating : Okay in general. Had a problem with being billed double when I paid my balance. Worst problem was when our departing flight was cancelled late on a Saturday. Office was closed then and all day Sunday. The "emergency" handlers could do virtually nothing.
Response from Grand European Travel:
We are very sorry to see that there was some issues with your billing.  Looking at the file, it was corrected the same day the double charge happened. Please accept our apologies for the hassle. We did receive notice from our after hours service about your flight being delayed and then cancelled. The only contact number provided was a home number and we tried several times to reach you.  It is a shame that you were delayed in arriving.  Should you need assistance with claiming this with your Travel Insurance, please don't hesitate to contact us.

Service rating : I was not aware my wife and I would be handed off to a tour which was being run by another travel organization. At the airport the person who was to take us to the bus was completely confused. She indicated we were not on the list and ignored us from that time on. She announced she was taking us to a bus on the parking lot, then hustled off. No indication the was cold while she found the bus. Since our tags were yellow and all other yellow tags were going to a bus with Trafalger patrons, I went there. She later came on the bus needing 2 more seats for other guests. The she said something about a limo. She was never seen on the bus again. We got to the correct hotel. At the hotel our guide for the week met us. She did a very good (great) job all week. All of the hotels did a great job with the meals for the week. The area of the hand off may have been explained in the literature which my wife may have seen, but not passed on. The incident at the airport left me wondering if the entire week was going to be this bad. Our guide and the bus driver made the entire week a pleasure. Bob Schott
Vacation : If purchase is the tour. I enjoyed it.

Service rating : I HAD ORIGINALLY SPOKEN TO MS. KARI NIXON. I SENT HER MY PAYMENTS AND WAS WAITING FOR MY TRAVEL PACKAGE. I FINALLY DECIDED TO CONTACT THE TRAVEL AGENT AND WAS SURPRISED TO FIND OUT THAT SHE HAD LEFT HER JOB AND HAD NOT FOLLOWED THROUGH WITH INSTRUCTIONS WITH HER WORK PEERS REGARDING MY PENDING TRAVEL ARRANGEMENTS/PACKAGE. ONCE I HAD SPOKEN TO ANOTHER REPRESENTATIVE HE BECAME AWARE OF THE DATE TO FORWARD MY DOCUMENTS WHICH HAD PASSED. IT WAS WITHIN A WEEK THAT I DID RECEIVE IMPORTANT TRAVEL PAPERS. GUJNEY, TOUR GUIDE, WAS VERY WELL VERSED AND EDUCATED SURROUNDING THE HISTORY AND PRESENT SITUATION OF ICELAND. OUR DRIVER, BJOREN, WAS POSSESSED EXPERT DRIVING SKILLS. OUR FIRST HOTEL FROM THE AIRPORT TO REYKJAVIK WAS NOT PREPARED FOR US. WE ARRIVED AT 8 am AND WE HAD TO WAIT UNTIL 11:30 TO CHECK IN GIVEN HOURS ON ICELANDIC AIR. THAT AIRPLANE, BY THE WAY, IS CRAMPED... NOT MUCH ROOM TO STRETCH. ANYWAY, THE HOTEL WAS REMISS IS NOT INFORMING US THAT THERE WERE BUS PASSES THAT WE COULD HAVE USED WHILE WAITING FOR OUR 11:30 CHECKIN. I WAS SURPRISED AT THE COST OF COMMODITIES. I PURCHASED TWO BOWLS OF SOUP ALONG WITH ONE ICELANDIC BEER AND THE TAB WAS $47.00. THE LANDSCAPE AND SITES WHAT GUJNEY SHOWED US I REALLY ENJOYED.
Vacation : OF COURSE I WAS A SINGLE PASSENGER AND THERE ARE NO SPECIAL RATES FOR SINGLE PEOPLE... FOCUS ON COUPLES.
  • U.S. citizens traveling to Iceland must have a current passport valid for six months beyond the conclusion of their trip. You can find information on how to apply for a passport here, and how to renew a passport here. No visa is required for U.S. citizens entering Iceland.

  • The currency in Iceland is the Krona.  While it’s a good idea to bring some money for when you first arrive in Iceland, you can use your debit or credit card to pay in most places and you’ll likely find a better exchange rate in your destination.  The most convenient way to obtain cash is to use your ATM card at local banks in Iceland. We recommend you also bring a valid credit card for purchases while you are traveling.  It is important that you inform your financial institutions of your travel plans before you leave home so they don’t flag your purchases as potentially fraudulent charges.

  • Icelandic cuisine offers an abundance of fresh seafood.  Enjoy dishes prepared with fresh herring, salmon, and trout as well as a variety of Icelandic specialties, and lamb.

  • We suggest packing a variety of clothing layers for Iceland’s cold oceanic climate. For more helpful information please refer to our Packing Tips & Packing List.

  • Tipping at restaurants is appreciated but never expected. If you would like to reward good service it’s appropriate to round up your bill or leave up to 10 percent for excellent service.

At the end of your guided vacation, it’s customary to offer your motor coach driver and Travel Director a gratuity.  We recommend the equivalent of $4-5 per person/per day for your driver and $6-7 per person/per day for your Travel Director.  Recommended gratuity for a Local Host and Local Specialist is the equivalent of 1-2 dollars per person, paid at the conclusion of each guided visit.  A convenient option is to prepay your tips before your departure.

  • Baggage on our trips is restricted to one large suitcase per person with dimensions not exceeding 30x19x10 inches and a maximum weight of 50 pounds. You are also permitted one piece of hand luggage, which should be small enough to fit under your coach seat or on the small overhead shelf compartment. Please note that luggage with an adjustable handle and wheels will not fit in the overhead compartment of the coach. Hotel porterage is included in your vacation.

  • You will need to be comfortable on your feet, walking and standing for up to three hours in various weather conditions.  All of our vacations involve walking, often on cobblestone and uneven surfaces in historic city centers.  In order to get the most out of your vacation you need to be able to comfortably walk 1-3 miles unassisted in one day, be in good condition and be able to keep pace with the group.

If you need any medications, it is important that you bring enough to last you the whole trip and keep them in your carry-on bag while you travel.

  • We highly recommend our optional Travel Protection Plan, which allows you to cancel for any reason up to 24 hours before departure. The plan also includes trip interruption, baggage loss or delay, and medical and emergency assistance. Click here for a summary of coverage details, terms and conditions.
