Our Top 2019 Family Vacations

Ready for the family trip of a lifetime this year? Here are some of our favorite, family-friendly vacation destinations.

Ireland & Northern Ireland

The Emerald Isle offers an array of family-friendly experiences that kids, parents, and grandparents will all cherish. Kiss the iconic Blarney Stone, admire the stunning Cliffs of Moher, and explore Giant’s Causeway—spectacular volcanic rock formations that, according to legend, were formed by dueling giants. Visit the Titanic Belfast museum to learn about the famous ship, and see the library at Trinity College Dublin, which feels straight out of Hogwarts. Spend an afternoon at the Winterfell Castle Archery Range for a behind-the-scenes look at Game of Thrones, complete with costumes and medieval bows.

Italy

What better way to learn history than to walk among actual ancient sites? Kids will love seeing the Roman Colosseum, Sistine Chapel, and Leaning Tower of Pisa with their very own eyes. And everyone will love sharing incredible meals and eating the world’s best gelato. Standing in awe of the Statue of David, tossing a coin into Trevi Fountain, and taking a gondola ride in Venice are magical experiences for travelers of any age.

The Greek Islands

Speaking of history, why not dive headfirst into ancient Greece? See the Parthenon, the Temple of Zeus, and Hadrian’s Arch, among other landmarks in Athens. Then, soak up the sun on the gorgeous Greek Isles. The islands offer an abundance of activities to entertain families, from ancient temples to museums to pedal boats. Wander among the white-washed, blue-domed houses, indulge in fresh seafood, and watch the legendary sunsets from atop Santorini’s cliffs.

Costa Rica

For families that love outdoor adventure, Costa Rica is a dream destination. The country’s national parks are home to a rich variety of wildlife, including monkeys, sea turtles, crocodiles, exotic birds, sloths, iguanas, and more. Families can relax on the beach or walk through the jungle canopy on hanging bridges. Zipline through the trees or go snorkeling on a catamaran cruise in the Pacific. It’s a family vacation you’ll never forget!

The American West

Explore Big Sky Country and some of the most breathtaking scenery you’ll find anywhere in the U.S. Beloved National Parks, including Yellowstone and Grand Tetons, can be found in South Dakota, Wyoming, and Montana. Take family photos in front of Mount Rushmore and Old Faithful. Get a taste of the Wild West and pioneer life at the Buffalo Bill Center and the Oregon Trail Center. The region is rich with outdoor activities for families, including horseback riding and river rafting.

The American East Coast

Or maybe your family would rather get back to our nation’s roots with a visit to the East Coast. Explore the birthplace of the American Revolution in Boston, follow the footsteps of our founding fathers to Independence Hall in Philadelphia, see the Statue of Liberty in New York, and tour the monuments in D.C. Sports fans will love visiting Fenway Park to see the Red Sox play, foodies will have their choice of world-class restaurants in the Big Apple, and chocolate lovers will rejoice when they visit “Chocolatetown USA” in Hershey, Pennsylvania.

Arianna Ambrutis

Having spent much of her life as nomadically as possible, Ari found a home with GET. As far as her travels have taken her, she's worked on an archaeological dig in Israel, sailed around Greek isles, experienced a crazy sunburn in Turkey, adores tomatoes in Italy, and thinks Paris and New York are just the bee’s knees. With her degree in Cultural Anthropology, Ari loves exploring a culture’s traditions, colloquialisms, and (most importantly) cuisines.
