  1. Day 1 Bonjour Paris

Bienvenue! The 'City of Light' welcomes you as you prepare to embark on an unforgettable journey through France. Join your fellow travellers and Travel Director this afternoon for a Welcome Reception and orientation drive to admire the glittering cityscape of Paris – past grand boulevards and iconic sites like the Champs-Élysées and the Arc de Triomphe.

    meals Welcome Reception
    hotel Evergreen Laurel
  2. Day 2 Admire Normandy’s Colourful Honfleur and the Bayeux Tapestry Dive Into Culture

This morning, we depart Paris and venture to the city of Rouen, the tragic site where Joan of Arc was burnt at the stake. We travel to the enchanting harbour town of Honfleur – its narrow lanes and colourful shopfronts have long attracted artists who have immortalised its beauty on canvas. Arriving in Bayeux, we visit the Tapestry Museum. Here you’ll Dive Into Culture and see the Bayeux Tapestry, depicting events before and during the Battle of Hastings in 1066. This evening, we dine at our hotel.

    meals Breakfast, Dinner
    hotel Mercure Omaha Beach
  3. Day 3 Explore the D-Day Landing Beaches

Today we explore the poignant D-Day Landing Beaches in the company of our Local Specialist. We begin with a visit to the American Rangers Memorial at Pointe du Hoc. Pay tribute to the brave souls who lost their lives at Omaha Beach, imagining the mingled sense of terror and triumph felt on the fateful day when Allied forces set foot on mainland Europe. We stop for lunch in the seaside town of Arromanches, the setting for the Mulberry Harbour, once at the heart of the Normandy landings.

    meals Breakfast
    hotel Mercure Omaha Beach
  4. Day 4 Journey to Picturesque Mont-Saint-Michel

Travel through Norman countryside to the UNESCO World Heritage-listed bay of the Mont St Michel. Spend your afternoon here admiring the ever-changing natural backdrop to the rocky island and its medieval abbey, or perhaps join an Optional Experience to Brittany's Emerald Coast jewel of Saint-Malo, where you can walk the ramparts and learn about the historic walled port city from a Local Specialist. Tonight we dine at our hotel.

    meals Breakfast, Dinner
    hotel Le Relais du Roy
  5. Day 5 Continue to the Beautiful Loire Valley Connect with Locals Dive Into Culture

This morning we join a Local Specialist to explore Mont Saint-Michel and tour the impressive medieval Benedictine Abbey. Legend has it, the abbey was built after the Archangel Michael appeared to the Bishop of Avranches inspiring him to build a church atop the island. Journey onward through scenic countryside, stopping to Connect With Locals at a lunch with wine in a 17th-century château during a Be My Guest experience set within beautiful gardens. Later, continue to the beautiful Loire Valley, where we will spend the next two nights.

    meals Breakfast, Lunch
    hotel Novotel Amboise
  6. Day 6 Discover the Stunning French Châteaux

We spend our day admiring the beautiful châteaux of the Loire Valley and join a Local Specialist for a visit to the Amboise Royal Château. It is here that King François I hosted Leonardo da Vinci, whose tomb now lies in the Chapel of Saint-Hubert adjoining the château. We continue with a visit to Château de Chenonceau, built on the Cher River. The château is often referred to as the 'Ladies Castle', due to the many women who influenced its construction and development. Today it contains priceless collections, including Renaissance furniture, tapestries and masterpieces by Rubens and Tintoretto.

    meals Breakfast
    hotel Novotel Amboise
  7. Day 7 Continue to Chartres and Paris

Our first stop today is the town of Chartres and its beautiful Roman Catholic cathedral, regarded as one of the most authentic and complete works of religious architecture from the early 13th century. We journey back to Paris this afternoon and spend the rest of our day in the 'City of Light'. Celebrate with your Travel Director and newfound friends this evening at a Farewell Dinner with local wines at a Parisian bistro.

    meals Breakfast, Dinner
    hotel Renaissance La Défense
  8. Day 8 Farewell Paris

For now it's time to say a fond au revoir to France and your fellow travellers at the end of a memorable trip. Find out more about available airport transfers at trafalgar.com/freetransfers.

Service
As compared to a previous trip, this one lacked in several areas including bus time, available time at destination, quality of the guided tour explanations, management of the details of the trip. While the hotels were generally good, we had one where even closing the bathroom door was a challenge given the amount of space allocated to it in the room. The food an beverage at meals was nowhere near the excellence of our previous trip. We chose this trip because it was guaranteed to be run even though we wanted a higher rated tour. You people at GET assured us that we would not notice much of a difference. There was hardly any point that we didn't notice a difference. The trip was still expensive but as a value proposition, not nearly as good as it could have been.
Response from Grand European Travel:
We appreciate your honest feedback. While every trip and destination is unique, we do want to provide a great experience for all guests. I'm sorry this trip did not live up to your expectations. We have noted all the issues you mentioned and will be sharing them with our team at Trafalgar.

See opening comments and add this: Our tour guide while friendly and knowledgeable through certain of her remarks reminded us that this was not a first class tour by how she stated rules such as, If you leave out a third bag, you will be charged for it. "A" for honesty and transparency, "F" for making you feel valued. While this kind of information is important to know, you have to find a different way of saying it. There were multiple examples of this throughout the tour.

Overall, we loved this very busy itinerary. Normandy and the D-day beaches were a bucket item for me. Brittnay and Mont St Michel were stunning. We toured two beautiful well known chateaus, numerous cathedrals, and saw a lot of France including Paris. Our guide was very knowledgeable, a great organizer, and a little full of himself. Our driver was very professional and personable, and kept us safe. We ate in a lot of hotels so we did not get to experience the great French food and wine that we have all heard about.
