Nestled between Italy, Austria and Hungary, Slovenia sits at the crossroads of some of Europe’s mightiest empires, evidenced through its varied architecture and cuisine. Ljubljana beckons visitors to its charming old town along the Ljubljanica River, where you will find the Tromostovje, or Triple Bridge, designed by the native architect Jože Plečnik. In the capital, you will also find Ljubljana Castle, Cathedral of St. Nicholas, Dragon Bridge, Tivoli City Park, and the bustling Central Market. A tour of Slovenia will include picturesque Lake Bled, instantly recognizable by the Pilgrimage Church of the Assumptions of Maria an islet in the middle of the lake. Overlooking the lake is 11th-century Bled Castle. Slovenia is also home to the incredible Postojna Cave system, famous for its extensive caverns and aquatic salamanders.
