  1. Welcome to the City of Angels. After a short transfer to Long Beach, settle in and relax before your vacation begins. At 6 p.m., gather at the hotel with your Travel Director and fellow traveling companions for a Welcome Reception.
  2. Travel south along the Pacific Ocean to San Diego. Get acquainted with the city on a tour that takes you from the Victorian Gaslamp Quarter and Old Town to the gardens and Spanish colonial-style museums of Balboa Park, the nation's largest urban cultural park. Enjoy some free time before joining your traveling companions for dinner.

  3. Head east today, as the great Sonoran Desert opens up before you and keep an eye out for giant saguaro cacti. This afternoon, arrive in the desert playground of Scottsdale. The evening is yours to enjoy.

  4. Travel north through the fragrant pine groves of Coconino National Forest on your way to the artists' enclave of Sedona. Get out your cameras as you near Oak Creek Canyon with its towering red cliffs and crystal pools. This afternoon, arrive at the Grand Canyon. Enjoy astounding views from the South Rim and meet with a Local Specialist who will enlighten you about the amazing geology of this natural wonder.

  5. Depart the natural beauty of the Grand Canyon and head toward the glittering lights of Las Vegas. Arrive at your hotel located in the center of the famed Strip and enjoy one of the high-end buffets Las Vegas is renowned for.

  6. The choices today are endless: hit the casinos, do some shopping or enjoy lunch at one of the city's elegant restaurants. If you're feeling adventurous, partake in an optional experience to the Hoover Dam, the engineering marvel that spans the Colorado River. Perhaps get a different perspective of sprawling Las Vegas with a ride on The High Roller, the world's tallest observation wheel. Or just lounge a while by the hotel pool, browse the exclusive shops or visit a spa for a rejuvenating massage.
  7. Leave the glittering lights of Vegas behind and travel through the wide-open expanses of the Mojave Desert. Arrive in Mammoth Lakes on the eastern slopes of the Sierra Nevada Mountains and enjoy the evening on your own. (Weather conditions may cause the Tioga Pass to be closed to traffic, typically from mid-October to the end of May. In this case, your overnight will be spent in Fresno at The DoubleTree.)

  8. Descend from the Sierra Nevada Mountains through stunning Tioga Pass (weather permitting) into the Yosemite Valley, passing the misty splendor of Bridal Veil and Yosemite Falls. Gaze in wonder at the granite walls of El Capitan and Half Dome. Spend the afternoon in one of the wild places that John Muir called “the hope of the world.”

  9. Descend from the mountains and head north for lunch on your own in Napa. Then it's on to Sonoma, where you visit a family-owned winery for an exclusive tour and wine tasting. Travel through scenic wine country before crossing the Golden Gate Bridge into San Francisco. This evening, enjoy dinner with your fellow travelers.

  10. As the mist rises over the bay, stunning San Francisco stands before you. Embark on a morning exploration that takes you from Fisherman's Wharf to Golden Gate Park. There's a story around every corner here and this afternoon you have some time to follow your own path.
  11. Spend a leisurely morning in San Francisco before heading to Carmel. In the quaint village of Carmel-by-the-Sea, browse the shops, wander down to the water's edge or savor a cappuccino at a café.

After a guided tour of his opulent residence, continue to sun-kissed Santa Barbara. This evening, toast your vacation and newfound friends with a California wine pairing at a culinary Be My Guest Farewell Dinner. Your host, a local chef and author, shares the bounty of local, seasonal foods for the ultimate farm-to-table experience.

  14. Wake to Santa Barbara's golden beaches and elegant Spanish Revival buildings. Head south to Hollywood and see its landmark sign, Grauman's Chinese Theater and the Walk of Fame. Bid farewell to the City of Angels as you ride down Sunset Boulevard and through Beverly Hills. A transfer is provided to Los Angeles International Airport or to the Hotel Maya if you'd like to extend your stay.

  • We suggest bringing a variety of lightweight clothing items that can be layered to save space in your suitcase and give you more options for how to dress. For more helpful information please refer to our Packing Tips & Packing List.

  • At the end of your guided vacation, it’s customary to offer your motor coach driver and Travel Director a gratuity.  We recommend $4-5 per person/per day for your driver and $6-7 per person/per day for your Travel Director.  Recommended gratuity for a Local Host and Local Specialist is 1-2 dollars per person, paid at the conclusion of each guided visit.  A convenient option is to prepay your tips before your departure.

  • Baggage on our trips is restricted to one large suitcase per person with dimensions not exceeding 30x19x10 inches and a maximum weight of 50 pounds. You are also permitted one piece of hand luggage, which should be small enough to fit under your coach seat or on the small overhead shelf compartment. Please note that luggage with an adjustable handle and wheels will not fit in the overhead compartment of the coach. Hotel porterage is included in your vacation.

  • You will need to be comfortable on your feet, walking and standing for up to three hours in various weather conditions.  All of our vacations involve walking, often on cobblestone and uneven surfaces in historic city centers.  In order to get the most out of your vacation you need to be able to comfortably walk 1-3 miles unassisted in one day, be in good condition and be able to keep pace with the group. 

    If you need any medications, it is important that you bring enough to last you the whole trip and keep them in your carry-on bag while you travel.

  • We highly recommend our optional Travel Protection Plan, which allows you to cancel for any reason up to 48 hours before departure.
