Service rating : One of the best tours taken as a whole and our first Talfalgar tour
Vacation : Very nice would recommend this tour to friends and Pedro Pinto was a wonderful guide
Saturday, November 4, 2017
Service rating : The tour guide was wonderful. Jorge was gracious and totally organized. He anticipated everything. Loved most of the hotels and the food. And, the itinerary allowed us to see so much of beautiful Portugal.
Vacation : We’re very experienced travelers and have used GET and Trafalgar in the past. This package was a good value.
Response from Grand European Travel:
Thank you for your review. We are delighted to hear you enjoyed your tour of Portugal, and we hope to welcome you on another vacation soon!

Service rating : excellent tour director Rafael Moreno!
Vacation : Very reasonable price for so much travel experience
Monday, October 23, 2017
Service rating : Great itinerary, Fantastic guide and remarkable bus driver.
Vacation : Portugal was not particularly high on my bucket list, but now I hope to return and explore the countrymore fully.
Response from Grand European Travel:
Thank you for your review. Portugal is a wonderful destination we are thrilled you had a chance to explore it with us.

Service rating : The tour guide was excellent. The places we visited were well worth it. I especially enjoyed the trip to Fatima on the 100th anniversary of the last appearance of Mary to the shepherd children. It was truly a cultural event. The bus was comfortable and the driver was excellent. The hotel accommodations were quite satisfactory.
Vacation : Very affordable. The GET Rep was very helpful. I highly recommend a trip to Portugal.

Service rating : Your travel agent Daniel was extremely polite and helpful.
Vacation : Overall it was good and comprehensive.

Service rating : When I have traveled with Grand European before the groups were much smaller. This group of 50 was far too many to offer a quality experience. It was impossible to even develop meaningful relationships with fellow travelers. This was not what I expected from Grand European.
Response from Grand European Travel:
We're very sorry to see that you were disappointed.  The size of the groups can vary from 35 to 52 guests depending on the destination and the operator.  The Best of Portugal was one of the most popular trips we sold this year so the size of the groups were all near capacity. We hope that you were able to enjoy the other aspects of the trip and thank you for bringing this to our attention.
Tuesday, October 17, 2017
Vacation : A group of 50 is too many in order to give a quality experience. It doesn't allow for quality relationships to be had. It also makes it difficult to follow and understand the tour guide and other expert presenters.
Saturday, October 14, 2017
Service rating : Without reservation, I would recommend the GET trip I have recently completed. The choice of tour director was inspired. Rafael Moreno's skill is unparalleled. The itinerary allowed our group to see far beyond the capital city of Lisbon and the Douro Valley. Many personal touches by Sr. Moreno, like a special Fado performance with an introduction by a renown guitar master, and a visit to a cork factory with a professor who explained the production process, as well as a boat cruise along the exotic coastline of the Algarve enriched the entire experience as did the musical selections during the long coach rides.
Response from Grand European Travel:
Thank you so much for your lovely review and recommendation.  We will see you on your next trip!
Tuesday, October 17, 2017
Vacation : There was ample opportunity to buy Portugal's best products and artisania. I especially selected a number of cork products and Port wine, of course. Obidos offered the ideal opportunity to find artworks, music CDs, and to taste the cherry cordial or ice cream.
Saturday, October 7, 2017
Service rating : The agent that set up the tour for me was very efficient, no nonsense. She did it and did it well. Answered all my questions and concerns . Her calm and efficient way reassured me totally. Her name is Alyssa Rucker in Oregon. Highly recommend her for promotion. Hope to deal with her again in a year or two.f
Vacation : It was a well organized, uneventful and smoothly executed tour.
Tuesday, October 3, 2017
Service rating : Excellent guide (Pedro Pinto). Very nice restaurants and good food. Some hotels were good; but one, the holiday inn, was very bad and not clean. Beach there was beautiful. Charge a little more and upgrade those hotels. Portugal is a beautiful country.
Vacation : Because of the hotels. Showers did not work in several, hotel breakfasts were just ok. Some were not clean. All I ask is for clean, they do not need to be fancy.
Wednesday, September 20, 2017
Service rating : We have traveled with GET 3 times now. They make sure you are cared for, have a good itinerary and we can leave the driving to them.. There are things I would prefer to be corrected but why talk about the bad at this point.
Vacation : Traveled with Trafalgar instead of GET and the standards were not the same. Lots of cut backs.. Our guide was excellent. But hotels were not the same as in the past, etc.
Response from Grand European Travel:
Thank you for honest review.  GET has not operated their own tours for over 3 years now and we sell our sister brands, Insight Vacations and Trafalgar Tours and Uniworld River Cruises exclusively.  While every trip and destination is different, we are sorry to see that this trip didn't meet your expectations.

Saturday, July 8, 2017
Service rating : tour guide was very knowledge and caring about everyone on the trip.
Vacation : excellant tour for the price
Saturday, July 8, 2017
Service rating : We had free treats in three cities; we were able to choose our menu, dinner was at a traditional restaurant, not hotel buffet except for two places.
Vacation : A lot of the other tours charge more and it's mostly dinner at the hotel.
Saturday, June 10, 2017
Service rating : Great service and very satisfied. Yes, we would use them again.
Vacation : We were more than satisfied with everything we received and all the extras that were included.
Sunday, May 28, 2017
Service rating : Grand European was responsive to any questions. The itinerary was wonderful.
Vacation : I thought the tour was a great value. Only one hotel in Porto needed updating.
Saturday, May 13, 2017
Service rating : For starters, I thought it would be an INSIGHT tour. To get our travel papers 2-3 weeks before departure and see we are with Trafalger..nothing we could do at that point. Traflager doesn't have the best food or hotels, overcrowded buses. I had no idea since we traveled last time that GETOUR (Insight) took over or combined with Trafalger and a couple other groups. I won't say NEVER, but doubt we'll travel with you again. Insight was so gracious and perfect for Spain and Europe. I do want to give 5 stars to Alex the guide and Victor the driver. They were wonderful...It wasn't all bad. But the days were jammed packed and tiring. up at 6ish and bus by 8. We were exhausted with NO down/free time. That trip was a huge surprise to me because I thought it would be a slower pace and more relaxing and not so rushed and crowded.
Response from Grand European Travel:
We're sorry to hear that you were unaware this trip was operated by our sister company Trafalgar Tours.  Grand European Travel, Insight Vacations and Trafalgar Tours are all part of the same company, The Travel Corp.  We do try to mark our brochures, website and payment invoices clearly by highlighting which of our brands is operating each trip.  Please accept our apologies if this was not communicated correctly when you booked with us.
Wednesday, May 17, 2017
Vacation : I assume you mean souvenirs? Portugal didn't have anything outstandingly unique? We bought a hand made sweater, some pottery dishes and knick knacks and the filigree silver/gold jewelry.
Sunday, May 7, 2017
Service rating : Very professional and always answered my questions
Vacation : Great value for the money
Saturday, May 6, 2017
Service rating : Well planed.
Vacation : Well organized. The group was may be too big.The guide excellent. Accomodation excellent, except in Lisabon, the room too small. The tours well planed. More legroom in the bus would have been nice. The British airways plane terrible, the service as well!
Saturday, April 15, 2017
Service rating : Friendly, knowledgeable, helpful. Good discounts on trips. Will book more trips with them.
Response from Grand European Travel:
Thank you so much. As a loyal past guest, we appreciate your business and look forward to helping you arrange your next trip.

Vacation : Great trip. Beautiful country. Perfect weather. Trip leader was organized, knowledgeable, helpful and funny.
  • U.S. citizens traveling to Portugal must have a current passport valid for six months beyond the conclusion of their trip. You can find information on how to apply for a passport here, and how to renew a passport here. No visa is required for U.S. citizens traveling to Portugal.

  • The currency in Portugal is the Euro (€). While it’s a good idea to bring some money for when you first arrive, you’ll usually find a better exchange rate in your destination.  The most convenient way to obtain cash is to use your ATM card at local banks in Portugal. We recommend bringing a credit card for purchases and informing your financial institutions of your travel plans before leaving home to avoid having your purchases flagged as potentially fraudulent charges.

  • With Portugal’s long coastline, seafood is featured prominently on their menus. Popular dishes include sopa de mariscos (a shellfish soup) and bacalhau (dried codfish), and Portuguese grilled chicken prepared with chili, garlic and olive oil. For dessert, don’t miss out on the famous pastéis de nata custard pastry or arroz dolce (rice pudding) and a glass of port wine.

  • Portugal has a temperate marine climate with hot summers and wet winters. We suggest bringing a variety of lightweight clothing items that can be layered to save space in your suitcase and give you more options for how to dress. Keep in mind that your shoulders and knees should be covered while visiting religious sites. For more helpful information please refer to our Packing Tips & Packing List.

  • Tipping is less common in Portugal than in the U.S. When dining out, it’s appropriate, although not required, to leave an extra euro or two or up to 5-10 percent for great service. Leave your tip on the table rather than adding it to your credit card slip to ensure that your waiter receives it.

At the end of your guided vacation, it’s customary to offer your motor coach driver and Travel Director a gratuity.  We recommend €3.00 per person/per day for your driver and €5.00 per person/per day for your Travel Director.  Recommended gratuity for a Local Host and Local Specialist is 1-2 euros per person, paid at the conclusion of each guided visit.  A convenient option is to prepay your tips before your departure.

  • Baggage on our trips is restricted to one large suitcase per person with dimensions not exceeding 30x19x10 inches and a maximum weight of 50 pounds. You are also permitted one piece of hand luggage, which should be small enough to fit under your coach seat or on the small overhead shelf compartment. Please note that luggage with an adjustable handle and wheels will not fit in the overhead compartment of the coach. Hotel porterage is included in your vacation.

  • You will need to be comfortable on your feet, walking and standing for up to three hours in various weather conditions.  All of our vacations involve walking, often on cobblestone and uneven surfaces in historic city centers.  In order to get the most out of your vacation you need to be able to comfortably walk 1-3 miles unassisted in one day, be in good condition and be able to keep pace with the group.

If you need any medications, it is important that you bring enough to last you the whole trip and keep them in your carry-on bag while you travel.

  • We highly recommend our optional Travel Protection Plan, which allows you to cancel for any reason up to 24 hours before departure. The plan also includes trip interruption, baggage loss or delay, and medical and emergency assistance. Click here for a summary of coverage details, terms and conditions.

Optional Experiences are subject to change and seasonal availability. Your Travel Director will supply you with a final list of Optional Experiences available on your trip and pricing. Optional Experiences cannot be booked online; they can only be purchased during your trip through your Travel Director.
