Eastern Europe Tours

Explore countries once obscured by the Iron Curtain on GET’s Eastern Europe tour packages, where the culture reflects a rich blend of east and west. Few cities showcase this blend better than Budapest, the capital of Hungary. Its two halves straddling the beautiful Danube River reveal a beguiling mix of Magyar, German, Slav, Jewish, Roma and Turkish influences.

Marvel at the Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood, a glorious confection of colored facades and onion domes in St. Petersburg, Russia. Don’t lick the walls at Poland’s Wieliczka Salt Mine, where four underground chapels are carved from rock salt. Get spooked at Romania’s turreted, tiled 14th century Bran Castle, popularly known as Dracula’s Castle. Witness the sobering history of Auschwitz, a notorious WWII concentration camp in Poland.

Remnants of the Soviet Union remain, in the form of an imposing statue of Lenin in Minsk, Belarus; Lenin’s Mausoleum in Moscow; and austere brutalist architecture dotting the region. Fortunately, the regime respected the stately, ornate and grandiose buildings of previous generations, so today’s traveler can admire striking relics such as the green and gold domed St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in Sofia, Bulgaria; Moscow’s palatial subway stations; and the charming medieval city of Brașov, founded in 1211 by the Teutonic Knights in Romania’s Carpathian Mountains. The Crusades linger in ruins such as the medieval citadel at Tsarevets in Bulgaria.

The cities, towns and villages will feed your curiosity on our Eastern Europe tours; the natural beauty of the wild Tatra Mountains and the Rhine river will feed your spirit; and the market halls of Budapest and other cities will feed your appetite with luscious baked goods and indigenous dishes like goulash, borsht, stuffed cabbage, sweet and savory crepes and dumplings, all enhanced by excellent local wine.
